No s**t? I really thought the KPI would be reversed if anything. I went outside to peer at the little Crapsman mower I let the kids drive, and I was trying to picture the axle flipped. I was fairly sure it would bugger up the geometry. And very sure the thing would be sitting so low, I'd be plowing, not mowing!
But hey, if you made it work for you, great!!!

I stripped the mower down completely over the past few days, and gave the frame a coat of flat black. Patina on the fenders is cool; rot on the chassis is not.
I also had to come up with a support for the dash that broke while I was taking it off...guess what happened to fit perfectly? lol

I also took a pic to show the front end for those who had questions, and to show just how low it is. Also got a pic of the seat; I removed the springs to make it lower/level and bolted it down solid.

I wouldnt trust the little snap ring or pin thatholds the spindles on to support the weight of the engine.

I'm using bolts through the spindle instead of the cotter pin.

Notched the rear of the frame to drop the axle brackets 1 1/2". As much drop as I could go with the stock tires and wheels (I'm cheap) plus I think the rake looks spot-on.
I also started painting the wheels (green is the new red) but I ran out of paint halfway in.

Came up with a cool shift knob too...

Loving the Green / flat black. Ill have its Gokart brother soon. Except im aiming for the anti-freeze green off of the 2010 camaro's, and flat black. Im hoping Orielly's can put it in an aresol can.

Mounted the hood and grille today. Used a massive piece of flatbar to spread the load across the bottom plastic grille mounts to keep them from breaking any further. Also used some scrap tubing from a swingset for grille support bars, the whole thing is way more solid than the original set-up with the sidepanels ever was.

Dammit, I just took the seat out of the little baggy, and it is plain, with no cut. Have to find a place to get it cut for cheap, this is leaving budget status quickly. Just the seat, gasket kit, and carb kit ran me $70.

you can turn the s terring wheel back black witha propane torch just lighty go over it on the lowest heat and it will turn black again....

So a buddy helped me get the seat installed (peened it, not coming out ever again) and gave it and the valve a nice 45 degree grind. I also rebuilt the carb, and ported out the intake manifold a bit, adding new gaskets upon reassembly.


Now my problem is, it runs, but it wants to rev all by itself, with the butterfly in closed idle position. The governor is hooked up exactly as stock. The only way for me to keep it at idle RPM is to have the choke most of the way closed (and it runs way rich as a result). Opening the choke farther only causes RPM to increase, even with the throttle still closed. I'm almost entirely sure there are no vacuum leaks between the carb, manifold, or block, because everything there is freshly tightened with new gaskets.
Any ideas??

If the throttle plate is closed and it still wants to rev, that really does sound like an air leak. I know you said the gaskets are good. Any chance it's got an open vacuum line or something?

I'm at a loss right now. I took off the intake and inspected everything, no cracks, gaskets were excellent, bolts were tight. I still have a runaway idle condition. Tried running it with the gov disconnected, and a simple return spring, no change. I started it up and held it at idle (choking it by hand) and sprayed carb cleaner anywhere a vacuum leak would be likely, still no change. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this motor would be acting this way? Any ideas at all? Because I'm stumped here.

did u clean the carb? did u fix the valve?

I had this very same issue with an XR100 motor and was not able to discover a reason for it to rev wildly.
