so my streets were getting really bad (pot holes and ditches everywhere) and all the town kept doing was filling the cracks with tar and filling in the pot holes with this terrible asphalt that crumbles out and makes a mess. i can find a pic of it if i try. my point is, it got to the 20 year schedule of re-paving. and they did. not the best job, but it was better than before.

so after the roads are nice and smooth (kinda) and months of work, they DECIDE TO REPLACE THE WATER PIPES. and everything gets dug up and it takes them the rest of the year to replace the pipes. :toetap05: then they just filled in the areas they dug in the middle of the street with crap and called it a day. so now the streets are worse than before and it will be another 20 years until they re-pave.

so i heard the government is pretty good at spending tax money, right?

Welcome to governmental bureaucratic stupidity. I have seen exactly that happen several times in Toronto. Doesn't matter where you are, they're all airheads.

My road kills me- it's a dirt/gravel road in the boonies, pothole central. Once a month or so, they come along and spread a fresh layer of dirt and gravel on it, spray that oily crap on it to reduce dust, and disappear again. Well what do you think happens? Within three days, all the loose stuff has been driven or rained out of the billions of holes, and the road ends up exactly as is was. Literally- same holes, same locations. Heaven forbid they come along with a harrow or something and actually loosen the entire surface to allow it to be recompacted flat. Nope. Dumb as he//. I can't even begin to guess how many times over they could have actually paved the road in the countless years they've been doing this, for the amount of money they spend on "grading" it constantly. The stretch is 5 or six miles long. So what would it cost to pave?

The worst part about road construction is the fact that the retards that fix the roads do a terrible job. The compartmentalization of the government is the worst part. They end up with money they need to use (AKA waste)for the roads while they fire another 50 teachers. Exactly what happened where I lived; they made these retarded concrete peninsulas downtown and repaved the road which made the speed bumps twice their original height. Total cost of something like $625,000. The first time an ambulance went over the bumps, the front suspension got torn up and cost the tax payers even more money.

I feel ya, tar and chip every couple of months. They repaved a 1/4 mile of road that fell apart, and it was nice but 2 days later they throwed rocks all over it and ruined it. What were they thinking? Trying to blend it in with the rest of the roads? Lots of our back roads are dirt, they are fun because afterschool my buddy that drives me home with a old lifted dodge ramcharger with a 318 has fun on them.

The dust control they used to put on our road killed the grass!

They had a huge main road construction project near my house. Of course, they didn't meet the deadlines, but that's a given. This was "paid" for by Obama's stimulus package. 2 months after they finished the busted up the road and put a sewer pipe in. This was not an emergency thing either. There's nothing bureaucrats do better than wasting money.

i guess we are lucky then
they are constantly re doing little 5km sections of our 130km road to town

exept the 30km of gravel with has not been rebuilt in 10 years and only gets graded once a month

with is ok in autumn and spring
but in winter it gets boggy and the sand comes though
and in summer it gets 160 tonne grain trucks over it every 1/2 hour and makes the pot holes massive

last year one of our neibours hit a big pot hole in a fully loaded 60t truck and bent the steering


if u live far out of town or live in a small town u cant make much noise and cant have big affects on poiltical outcomes

its all about pleasing the masses

we had a road that was so ****ed that it caused problems, some guy hit a gigantic hole while riding his harley and flipped, we went to the city and complained, we got a new road for some area that took about 4 months, its nice and smooth, but the asphalt is coming apart. and if you hit one of those little pieces of asphalt on something, be ready for it to hit you. and actually, my neighbor got into a kart crash due to the construction, they took a piece of the sidewalk out and when he hit in he totalled the kart, but his clone is still going strong,
