So, I just finished getting my go-kart set up today for me and the kid. Started great on the second pull. We took it for a couple spins around the yard. As we pulled back up to the garage, it died. I figured it ran out of gas, cause I didn't put that much in, but when I checked, it had gas. So we let it sit, went in and had lunch, went back out 20min later and it still won't start. I haven't pulled the plug to check for spark yet since the engine is still hot and I don't feel like accidentaly burning myself, but its brand spankin new!!!! I checked the oil, just to make sure, but it is still full. Checked air filter too and of course its clean cause we didn't go that far. Any ideas guys?

Well, there was no gounding wire that I saw. It is just a pull start. It ran great on the workbench, mounted, started second pull, made couple laps around the house, died. Won't start. This thing has literally 20min of run time on it. Everything looks good, from an external inspection..... Maybe put some lucas in the gas tank?? The gas in my gas can isn't that old......

gonna go check for spark and make sure gas is gettin to the cylinder now... I think it has had enough time to cool down. Might give it a pull or two just to see if my luck has changed. lol

So... I am lucky!! I think it just overheated. It started on the second pull. BUT..... It is running WAY too hot. There is literally blue flame coming out of the exhaust about every 3 seconds or so. How do I adjust this? I know nothing about this predator engine.

Cjhoward78, yes, its a 212cc predator. And yes, it had blue flame at idle. I let it idle for about 2 min and shut it down to go tinker with other projects. Wife got home 5 min later. went to start it up so she could hear it run, and it won't start again. I did pull the spark plug to check it, blacker than black. don't know how to adjust the carb on this thing. So know I am waiting for it to settle for a while before I go try to start it again.......

Well- If the oil is too thick, it will not properly penetrate the areas it needs to. These tighter passages will suffer oil starvation. Naturally, a lack of lubrication will cause excess heat.

Hope I didn't seriously mess anything up. It won't start at all right now. Its gettin dark, so I will drain the oil tomorrow and put 10W30 in it. Is there a way to drain it without having to take the engine back off the go-kart?

That really depends on the design of the kart. Your engine (I believe) has 2 oil drain plugs. One fore, one aft.

I got a nagging suspicion your engine is, uhh- What's the word that rhymes with "sucked"?
