would it be possible to build a racing kart that you could run on a track and compete with? like is there restrictions such as a plate number on the kart frame that says "Hey this karts passed all tested and is strong enough to be raced in a safe manner"? or is it just something i can build if i find a blueprint from google showing a good build, because i dont want to spend 5k on a frame when i can build it for way less and my welds would probably be better even.

Welcome! I couldn’t tell you, it may vary from track to track, most of us are yard and off road kart drivers, not racers. One thing I will say after reading some about these things is a surprising amount of engineering goes into those race karts. If you want to go dirt oval racing then check out 4cycle.com.

Any thing is possible. Someone has to build these things. You just need to know how. Engineering, plans , materials and skills, tools, machines and necessary assorted equipment. Probably not a project for the average the average guy to pull off in the garage. Not something l would attempt without a lot of guidance. Not something ya can just bolt together.

Some small racekart tracks don't have any rules and would allow any kart to compete, but most real racekart tracks have Tech Inspectors with a very strictly enforced set of rules that are required by the tracks sanctioning body and Insurance company.

What track do you wanna race at?
