okay so im finally, complete with my qrc racing kart. i drove it around today and my chain kept failing off. unfourtunately my motor mount keeps sliding up and causing the chain to come loose. naturally you would tighten the mount but it doesnt work it just keeps sliding up. what should i do?

well... you should figure out why the mount keeps sliding and fix it! LOL

are the bolts not tight enough?

is there grease all over the mounting plate?

are you using 4 bolts?

do the thread on the bolts stop before getting to the mounting plate?

is the frame flexing a ton near the engine?

are you using loc-nuts or loc-tight?

could something else be causing the chain to fall off?

Could it be that the engine mount needs a small shim of sorts to snug up the fit?

my kart has a 2 inch tube welded vertically on the frame with a threaded rod running running through it pressed against the motor mounts.

Assuming your getting those bolts going through the clamps tight enough, I got a feeling that guy just sold you your kart with the wrong type of motor mount and/or size of butterfly-clamps.

Race kart frames come in several different-diameter frame tubing sizes, and also with their 2 frame-rails spaced further or closer together. You have to use the correct style motor mount and especially butterfly clamps to match your frame correctly, so the mount can get a good grip to the frame.

Your motor mount and butterfly clamps HAVE to be the correct size to fit your kart, or you'll run into problems just exactly like your having now...

Check out how tightly the butterfly-clamps fit and totally wedge into the bottom of my karts frame.
When my bolts are tight, there is absolutely no feakin way my motor mount can ever slide on the frame.

When I loosen my bolts to adjust my chain, I actually have to tap on my butterfly clamps a little bit with a hammer to knock them loose from the frame, because they wedge-in and grip the frame so dam tightly.

(your motor mount will probably just have 2 butterfly clamps, that's normal. I just added a 3rd to mine to make it even stronger)

mine only has 2 and its pretty tight until i start the engine and drive it. it just wiggles loose and then slides closer to the engine

Are the screws backing out or are the clamps sliding on the rails?

Then you've got the wrong motor mount and/or clamps to fit your frame.

I know your low on bucks right now... So I was thinking you might be able to get-by for awhile using some steel-wool or possibly even several layers of aluminum foil to help shim/tighten the fit until you can afford a 15-degree motor mount that truly fits your frame.

Every time your chain flies off your damaging your sprocket, clutches drive-gear and chain more and more. That's bad enough, but just make g*d dam sure your whole engine cant ever come flying off, because you could end up with the clutch drive-gear spinning 3600rpm in your lap until it ground your junk right off and turned you into a girl...

Every kart needs a chain/clutch guard, but with your funky rigged-motor mount you REALY need to buy or build one for that thing too, pronto !!!

My karts frame has a bolt-hole mounting tab that allows me to install/tighten a long bolt up against the back of the motor mount, this simple bolt stops the motor mount from ever being able to slide back on the frame. (bottom-center of pic)

If your frame has one of these bolt-tabs, go get a long bolt that's threaded the whole way, or cut a suitable length of 'All-Thread', and use double/jam-nuts to tighten in place between your frame and the rear end of your motor mount.

mabe take an old bike tube and cut some peices out to fit between the bottom clamps and the frame?
