I built my very first electric go kart and I am thinking of getting a racing go kart just for fun and no actual racing. I am wondering would it be worth it? Are the costs for maintenance and riding it high? I very new to gas go karts and I have no clue what even is on a gas powered go kart. Also, are there any for sale that are worth buying, it would be helpful.

They are very close to the ground (around 30mm or an inch and a quarter) the engines put out huge power for their weight but need constant attention, mine has had $1500 in work done in 12 months, however a lot of that was preventative maintenance and a bottom end rebuild that only comes around every 50 hours, I should be able to get 10-15 hours on the piston and rings. Depends what you are into realy. nothing wrong with a 7hp industrial motor on a race kart if it's for fun, provided you have somewhere flat to use it.

Lets say that I bought a brand new racing go kart, how much would it cost me to rebuild the engine or is it manageable to rebuild it yourself and how much for maintenance for normal wear and tear, like the pistons, rings, tires, brakes, etc... Also is the gas consumption of a racing go kart engine very high and expensive?

I dont have a racing cart but I mx. if you are going to do a 2stroke I bet its about the same. My bottom end is good much longer than the top end. I re piston and hone my yz250 every 10 hours and get the cylinder replated at about 40-70. I could see maintenance costs on a kart maybe being more as smaller bikes are torn down more often. like a 125 needs a rebuild before a 250. Air filters and where you ride change a lot of it too. I dunno. I could costs being easy over 1g a year
