Ok....I don't want to get the whole politics/ gun control thing started.....but this is FUBAR.....

My niece and her husband were in town for the Easter holiday.....

She commented that he can't buy a gun.

Reason: He's a Texan living in California. Ummmmm......not really!!!!!

He's a Marine. Back home from Afghanistan....at his home base...where he is now.....GET THIS ...serving as a master gunnery instructor!!!!!!

C'MON MAN.....WTF...Is this country coming to when a combat veteran can't buy a gun??????

Yes California Govt sucks rotten rat feces through a straw. Sometimes you really really wonder what country you are living in. The cost of living is terrible,
But having been born here 40 years ago, man the weather is great here in San Diego ALL the time 300+ days of sunny clear warm skies, and unlike Texas the bugs are eaten by the birds NOT the size of birds.
I am so spoiled by the weather and after 40 years well it is just home. As much as I hate it I am waaaay to comfortable to leave.
We do have guns, a lot of guns. You cant shoot just anywhere but it is possible.

Well....'splain this then Lucy.....how come 90% of the members from California can't spell worth a krap?

Texas school systems are among the top in the nation.....as are the students that come out of them...but then again...you might know that if you had ever done your homework....lesson #1: (I would have thought EVERYONE knew this already: "Don't mess with Texas!"

Last I checked....they give new recruits clothes and shelter....but not machine shops....he's not looking for some pieced together Saturday Night Special....

And truth be told ..he could just walk into a gun shop...disable all the breathing occupants...and walk out with the whole store.....that's not the point...

Any law abiding citizen in any state should have the lawful right to purchase a gun. We need to wake up as a people or end up like Australia where guns are illegal so only the bad guys have them.

Not my friend....(not that he's not.....I wouldn't want to get on his bad side....not too many people intimidate me....but I wouldn't want to tangle with him...even if we were the same age).....but I'm proud to say he's a relative....(my niece's husband) ....

Anyway....like I said it's FUBAR....because Texas considers him a non-resident now....and actually I think he can buy a gun here he just can't take it to California....

Gun control is just stupid anyway....but as I said in the beginning....I don't really want this to go that way.....but...it is pointless...I can make a gun in my shop in short order that will kill a person...if pressed...I can make the gunpowder and bullets too....

What about building from 80% lowers? Or some sort of parts kit? An 80% AR lower can be completed with a drill press. Polymer 80% with a dremmel. Some parts kits out there a few basic tools and a welder is all you need to have a nice functional and legal firearm.

Not sure what kind of CA compliant hogwash needs to be done though... seein as how Im not in CA and all. lol.

Ofcourse, having a machine shop available would sure help... but due to some new rulings, you or I couldn't have a machine shop machine an 80% lower, less it was say a nifty cnc logo.
They could do other components though. If you or I owned a machine shop, we could build our own, but our fishing buddy cant use our machines.
I think that my fishing buddy could build one on a machine I have in my basement.

To anyone who may be wondering, it is perfectly legal to build your own firearms. Provided you are not a felon. Providing you follow certain guidelines(barrel length, overall length) and providing you go through the paperwork for say a SBR or whatever.
