Pistons loaded up today.
Partially poked in the hole.

Then it was wrestle the bad boys up and slide the wrist pin through the rod.
Push the jug down and then one last ring on the bottom of the piston gets squeezed in. Repeat 6 times then torque down 8 bolts per cylinder. 6 are regular studs and 2 are through the block case bolts.
Some of you might recognize the special tool here.

This is deceiving. Tops are easy.
The bottom ones are 1/16 of a turn at a time.

Then came home, watched the first race of the season and had a beer.

Oh look, another airplane engine.
Got it tore down and inspected.
2 cylinders are 15 over. Another had broke rings. Cam looked good but two lifter tappets stuck and were gouged. Crank looked good also.

This one was bought for parts for one that we tore down already. Rod cap bolt backed out and ate the Crank. Broke the rod. Had to cut the jug to get it apart.

Those engines is getting boxed until the firewall is fixed.
Backstory:
Pilot flying over had a noise and then violent engine shake. Loss of oil pressure.
Forced to land here. Probably scared and anxious to get on the ground, landed quite hard. Bent the fire wall. A structural part of the nose gear.
Insurance totaled it and a local picked it up for a song.

Damage is to the right of center, left of the right circle. The vertical crease.

Firewall looks like it is buckled all over the lower half, basically. Guess it’s now quite flexible on those creases, rather accordion-like?

How ya gonna fix it?

Looks like scrap aluminum to make more better things out of it to me?
It very well could end up that way. Part out the good stuff.

Guy is trying to find a firewall. From a scrap yard is cheaper than from Cessna.
Plan is to bottom half it. Basically the rivit line that is at the tan stripe. Drill out all the lower and graft in the new.
There are the rudder pedals and other good stuff on the inside that mount there also. Two "frame runners" so to speak.

This is on the slow burner. It will be quite some time before this one makes progress. Took 6 months to find an engine.

I used to sit for HOURS in front of the 'Super Nintendo', playing "Road to the Top. Not sure anyone is familiar. It was Al Unser Jr's game.

Kinda shows how long Ive been 'sim racing'.

EDIT: Thought it was the regular NES...
