Question toro gts 2 stroke lawnmower

How are these motors. i had a toro somone threw out and yanked the motor off it. Its a 2 stroke lawn mower tor motor has GTS on it. Anyone no what the hp of this is? Are they any good do people like them ? Im shore i will have but load more questions for ya all

Im pretty sure there was someone trying to sell a toro 2 stroke mower engine on Ebay Aus recently. Im pretty sure it was a toro. The ad said 4.5hp i think. Dont know anymore than that though sorry

I saw anywhere from 3.5hp to 5.5hp check for I.D numbers on engine.

thats what i found on it. now i have a nerf dog gokart . how would this motor work out on it or should i just by new card for the nerfdog?

3.5 hp is not much at all. You eont get very much tourqe or speed

2 Strokes generally give you more torque per horsepower than 4 strokes

And if its well built you could probably tune it up to 6hp quite easily

it would move. i doubt very fast, though.. and you never really know exactly how fast and torquey it will be until its done. but you can guess

Yes, and yes. Years ago, I had one of these mowers. Started right up every time, and man- you couldn't kill it (assuming you weren't dumb enough to feed it straight gas). Eventually, I inherited a much newer, nicer 4-stroke mower so I got rid of my old Toro. I could still kick myself. Back then, I really didn't know much at all compared to now. If I knew then what I know now, I'd still have that old Toro. (on the plus side, I now have a Lawn Boy that needs some tinkering and tweaking, but runs well, cuts like a dream, and didn't cost me anything)

My daughters kart has an old ('77) 3hp B&S, it does ok

dunno about on karts but on lawnmowers that engine is about equal to a 6hp 4 stroke. It should also be happy to rev out a lot higher than a ****ty sidevalve 4 stroke. Will go good as. Theres a vid on youtube somewhere of a guy who put one on a bicycle and it seems to go realy well.

Ah ok, Ive seen the suzuki 2 stroke mower engines before, just not in a non mower form or without the cowlings haha. Yea, when you think about 3.5hp it doesnt sound like much, but that would be in stock form. Put a nice pipe on it, bigger carby, more flowing air filter, port it, and watch the power climb Either way, as sexyvicta said, they are equal to a 6hp 4 stroke when your mowing. Oh, and stock, some victa motors were rated at 3.5hp for minibike use, considering that karting in Australia professionaly was based heavily on the Victa engine, I think you can get that toro to work fine. haha

I wonder if it has the right parts to rev out to 6000rpm with only governer removal? I imagine with a aluminum flywheel it will be ok, im conserned about the conn rod?

Was teh toro motor made by OMC like the lawn boy motor?
If so, check the stroke and rod length on these. They weren't really designed to be weed eater or chainsaw style motors that reve a lot. They were more-so designed like the old Detroit Diesel two strokes with a ton of low RPM torque.
My lawn boys make killer torque at like 3200 rpm! I would say at 3200rpm my little 120cc motor is running with an 8hp 4 stroke. It will straight walk away from my buddies 6.5 clone.

no its a suzuki. Will be happier at 5-6000rpm than any industrial 4 stroke

i have the one i got down my parents house i will try to take some pics of it this week and get some measurements. maybe i will try puting on my sons kart afterall, i got a friend whos a welder, and i happen to own a welder hmmmmmmmm what kind of bigger carb how much bigger where would i get it. the exhaust wraps around the motor right now. i will get some pics of it.
