Question on making a gas tank...filler neck?

My main question on the gas tank question is what are guys using as a filler neck? What things can I scrounge up in steel,aluminum or stainless? This will determine the tank material.

So what do you need, just a basic filler and matching cap? Pull one off nearly any car. They have a flange mount (that would mount to the car body) and are connected with a rubber hose to the tank. In your case affix the flange directly to the tank. Note- some (and I think ALL modern) caps seal. If you get one, be sure to vent the tank or cap somehow.

Find a junk motorcycle gas tank with a cap. Cut the filler out of that and some caps are vented so you fixed 2 problems.

my gas tank is a propane bottle on its side with a 2" threaded pipe welded to it. cap is a 2" threaded pipe cap, simple, effective and best of all (except propane tank) can be bought new for pretty cheap usually.
