I am building an offroad style go kart using a 110 quad frame the axle sprocket is a 428 - 42 i have compared the chain sizes and looks like the chain for a #40 will work dimensionally my question is this if i get a clutch with the #40 10 tooth gear and use a 428 chain will this set up work.

Have not decided whether to use a t-convertor or centrifugal i am cheap so may end up with centrifugal but the chain fitting either is the first question as i have not found any clutches at all that are stated as 428.

Thanks

Im not familiar with the type of chain you mentioned, but I would get what parts you can get easily.
Can you get a #40 sprocket?

Whats the vehicle, post a pic?

The roller diameter of a #428 chain is 0.0225" larger than that of a #40 chain; as far as dimensions go, that's the only difference...

The quad i am using is a baja 110, it is a chinese version came with no motor but most everything else and i got 2 of them with good tires and wheels for 50 bucks so i am going for cheap builds if you k now what i mean, the sprocket looks a little odd i will grab some pics tonight and post them along with the bolt hole measurements as best i can while it is mounted. i did call moto chains as they had a good size and measurement chart and he thinks it will work but he was not sure

Fabroman thanks for that i am planning on using a 6.5hp think that difference in chain will be a major issue
