the throttle lever arm is functioning fine...working as described in last three pictures in link you sent... I have yet to touch the screws...they are both in factory positions...will try adjusting idle screw first (as I mentioned previously it did nothing on last engine and just wanted to make sure I was adjusting correctly)... to "slow" the idle down do you tighten screw in clockwise rotation or loosen screw in counter clockwise rotation? have kids little league games tomorrow...
plan to try it out again thursday night and see what happens and will re-post....

Do you have enough play in the cable? It looks tight in the one pic. What happens if you push the hand lever to the slow position while it's running?

Did you loosen the nut 10mm on the throttle assembly when you hooked up the kart throttle? In pic 4 there is a nylock nut that is partially blocked from view by your return spring. Near the top of the pic. This needs to be loosened so the long tab (that you'd use on a tiller or pressure washer with your thumb) can swing back and fort effortlessly. From the factory they snug it down so the throttle will stay in the spot you want it when you're running the tiller or mower or whatever. That's what they mean when they are asking if you have any binding. You should be able to move that throttle control fast to slow with almost zero effort except that of your return spring you put on when you rigged up the kart throttle.

Thanks for the thoughts guys...yes the 10mm nut is loose and it moves easily...the cable attachment is also working fine, the "hand lever" is as far to the left as can go..

I am stumped...this new engine is acting exactly like the last...turning the idle screw CCW does not change anything.

Extremely frustrating to be so close yet so far.

I must be doing something wrong as I can not understand the same problem with two different engines.

The stock throttle rod was hooked up to the black "BLACK butterfly shaft" and another peice under the gas tank. When I installed the new throttle rod the peice under the gas now has no connection. You can move that peice back and forth but I do not know what it does. Is something supposed to be hooked up to it?

I followed the AGK throttle kit steps 2,3, and 4 in the following link provided by 1992suburban below...

I would try taking all the throttle cable assembly back off (not the stock stuff just the assembly you added)and try running the engine stock out of the box. Try using the throttle lever that is on the engine and see if it works ok.

the lever is suppose to be all the way to the right at idle
and go left to accelerate

from the sound of it
it seem that the kit you put on the throttle assembly is pulling the lever to much not letting the throttle be closed

therefore causing it to spin the tires fast
(tires usually spin even at idle when prompt up cause not weight on tire for clutch to work)

just take off that kit and set the throttle all the way to the right and see if the engine is working properly

lost

Keep getting..."daddy, daddy is it fixed yet"....This christmas gift is really getting stale!:rolleyes3:

I ran it this weekend several times...the throttle assembly is closed...the throttle "lever" is to the "right" when throttle is closed. It seems to have nothing to do with throttle/AGK kit as have checked it over and over and working fine and exactly as installation instructions...this thing progressively SCREAMS as I open the choke...seems at top speed when choke fully open...when I move the throttle (by hand or gas pedal) you here the engine rev up more...but it by no means compares to amount of change in speed that occurs when opening the choke... moving the throttle increases whatever speed is set by the choke...but not a whole hell of alot...

Again...loolking at the black butterfly throttle being pulled open and closed by the AGK replacement "shorter" throttle rod that attaches to the throttle lever...it opens and closes smoothly.

This weekend I will try to disconnect the AGK throttle rod anyway...have yet to do it as it is a real pain in the ___ to get off or on...

Maybe need to give your throttle cable some slack so your acceleration lever goes all the way back. I had to do that to mine.

Got It...FINALLY!!!

Thanks all for your help...bknights you were exactly right and it is also exactly what 1992subburban refered to early on but I could not figure out at the time.

The kit "throttle lever arm" was about 3/16" too long...I had to shorten it and now the "butterfly" closes as should and actually allows the idle screw to do its job.

My boys were SO exited...they said that they had already given up... :)

Although the kit was not exact I still think it was worth the 10 bucks as it is a clean solution.

THANK YOU!!!!:wai:
