I have everything set on my gocart but the engine runs full throttle when I slide the choke to the right. I can not get the engine to idle at a reasonable speed when I slide choke all the way right.

Is the engine supposed to idle when the choke is slid all the way to the right? or are you supposed to only slide it partly to the right (which does not seem safe since if it somehow slides all the way right while my kids are gdriving it they are going to fly and hit a tree or something worse).

when using the throttle arm, is there any binding? wheni first got mine, i saw it was sprung open. so i installed a spring to make it in the idle position. i was unaware that when it cranks up, it gets put in the idle position. check that choke operates in the normal manner. is the carb up tight against the head/insulator and the breather assmebly tight against the carb? an easy way to check is to get a can of carb cleaner or either, while it is running spray some around the bodies mentioned. you don't need to spray much, and if you do, you can get a false reading.

Is it brand new? If it's not too much trouble (like mail order) maybe return it. I like to fix things, But I'm also a firm believer that if you've paid for a new, warranted product, that's what you get. Shouldn't have to "fix" something right out of the box. I don't own a clone, I have a Honda GX340. It's several years old but I know that the choke only needs to be on for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two depending on temperature. It does not need to be run part-way closed at all.

OK...better description of issue...

Return spring is on. I bought the $10 throttle assembly kit and it worked great...this is my second engine...just returned last and put this one on this weekend (1.5 hrs. vs. 10-12 hrs with first...easier second time around :) )

First engine had same issue...so I am now thinking I am doing something wrong.

first engine I messed with black throttle adjustment scew and HAD NO EFFECT on engine idle speed (1-800 Service tech reviewed with me and said "take engine back in bad carb").

This time I have yet to touch screw. Started right up...let warm up for some time...same issue.

"is the carb up tight against the head/insulator and the breather assmebly tight against the carb? an easy way to check is to get a can of carb cleaner or either, while it is running spray some around the bodies mentioned. you don't need to spray much, and if you do, you can get a false reading."

will need to do more engine research before I can answer this.

who those retards that are at the 1 800 are so annoy, well i have a clone engine and how i hooked up my throttle linkage is, the easyest way, just take a self tapered screw and a washer and drill it into the part right above the choke lever and then drill the throttle lever out an then run your throttle cable through it that way. that worked for me

Can someone help me understand how the adjustment screws wor? Marked #1 and #2

The engine is reving high. Starts with choke in closed position as shown. when I slide to left go-cart starts speeding as if was stepping on gas. I burned off the paint on the clutch as someone was sitting in cart holding brake and got way overheated after a few minutes.

???

Thanks 1992suburban...I have not touched the screws yet on this engine..on the first engine NOTHING changed when I played with the idle screw or the CCW...and that is why I returned it.

What do you mean by "make sure that NOTHING is binding" ?

Should I adjust one or the other first when trying to idle it down?

I have the cart propped up and it is spinning tire faster as I open choke. As a matter of fact tire is always spinning even if choke closed...not sure if this is normal. When I have choke open all the way it seems as if it is at full throttle.

check to make sure the butterfly is RESTING against that screw. if it is then turn CCW make sure it follows that screw, idle should lower IF NOT then your return spring is OFF the lil black one that keeps the idle CLOSED

I noticed you installed the AFGK parts throttle kit.
