Putting together a bike trailer.

I hate backing down ramps, and that foot or three of non contact with the ground, especially with my cruiser.
I'm currently not enjoying the 8 mile dirt road ride on the cruiser, and also want to be able to haul my Baja's to different places to ride.

This is what I have come up with.
I have this old lowboy flatbed trailer that I'm going to put back in use.
The hind quarters sit about a foot from the ground when sitting on my low hitch.

As you can see from the pics, the old jack got bent some time ago, and really needs to go anyway.
I found a 12V electric jack from Wally's world com rated @ 3600 pounds. I then found a 12V wireless remote that operates from a key fob.

The plan is to remove the old jack, and install the electric one, and make a sleeve extension for it if needed, so I can raise and lower the bed while still sitting on the bike.

My hope is that maybe with the PU bed empty, the power of the jack might extend the bed springs enough that I don't have to unhitch it from the truck.

What say you?

I bought the 3,500 lb electric jack from Harbor Freight, and mounted to my toy hauler of approx. 1,300 lbs tongue weight. It lifts the trailer, and the rear of my 3/4 ton Avalanche with no sweat, and it was about $100 with the 20% coupon

I say go in a whole other completely different direction. You do not like backing down the ramps.
Then make a drive through trailer with a front ramp on 1 side.
You would just have to jack knife the tongue a bunch.

I like to complicate things.

I have the Harbor Freight jack on my trailer. It is very powerful. I was doing something similar with mowers. The extreme angles caused it to break the mount (three bolt dealio) and the plate at the bottom of the jack, welds on both.

Unfortunately I didn't have a HF AC flux cored machine to slag it back together. Had to settle on an old Miller wire machine. Seemed to work OK.

It's going to take some custom cutting and welding to get this accomplished, no question about it.
