I'm helping a buddy get rid of some excessive junk around his place, and found this in his side yard.

COOOOL.. a Bird Baja

I like it, I'd keep it.

'sid

Well, he just got divorced awhile back, and is cleaning the wreckage that is his yard, that I guess he lost interest in.
So we're CL-ing the daylights out of stuff.

I might post it, is it worth a million bucks, or what?

It seems almost everybody has a trashed out gokart somewhere.

not the original wheels... I's say around 120 or so...
it's just a nice yard kart, no collectible, no "rarity"
it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

I'd leave it there, tumble weeds have found a home, tires sunk into the sand...it's fancy schmancy yard art.

Add a new diaphragm to the pump ($.50 worth of material), fresh fuel and some fresh oil and she'll probably burp a few times, sure.

Further research seems to indicate it's a Bird/Phoenix Engineering kart from the glorious 80's.
I don't see these too often around here. I'd air up the tires and see if the thing'll fire on starting fluid. Maybe go a bit further and make it a running roller (maybe not necessarily powered by chain and all, but..).

Beautiful kart though, the geometry and overall "raciness".

Dang Joe, keep knocking them outta the park in the photography arena and we'll have to put you on a pedestal.

That's your estimation; fair and realistic and what it's basically worth... but what would the typical CL minion ask for?

It's all in "the sell".

I figger you write in all caps and toss in those trigger words like "vintage", "antique" and "rare" and $800 isn't far off. Be sure and tell them it's complete. I'm surprised it still has a chain. Most junkers are stripped of everything even remotely useful...

Bubba is often in need of dem wheels for his lawnmower or wheelbarrow, you know.

That's hilarious!!

It's even better at live auctions when common sense goes out the window and bidding wars begin. Nothing like paying at or above retail. Then you have all the 'bankrupt' farmers out here with bottomless checkbooks "I already have 4 of those, I will take it home, fix it and use it." Sure you will. Its ok though, they often overlook a lot of stuff esp if its not green and yellow.

I've heard of that happening at live auctions but never witnessed it firsthand. It's real bad with these guys hording all the vintage mini bikes and go karts. Just the mentality of it all.

Just posted on CL for $175.

Well, shoot. Let's see the ad Joe before it goes POOF.

Come on!
