After another Fire extinguisher clamp/bracket thingy broke this weekend l decided i need something mo bedder. The standard 2# bracket that has been around forever, just doesnt work in anything other than a highyway vehicle. So the engineerin department went to work.
I learned decades ago that any machine that uses fire and explosive fuel needs a fire extinguisher.
This poor guy taught me how important that is.

That was a long time ago and a whole different "motor sport" but the basic elements are the same. Fire is scary! This event was so traumatic l remember often. (Thats BS l dont remember much)
In a vehice where the surface it traverses might get bumpy, it is nice to have things withstand off road abuse and be quick and easy to deploy.
With those requirements Engineering stole this eerr ahhh l mean designed this:

This thing is a flash of genius, not only does the saddle fit the FE but can be customized to hold your thermos, Whiskey bottle or any beveradge containment vessle. The possibilites are endless! Order now before the stampeed!

Todays topic on Hack's garage, chain lube! Purdy friggen exciting huh?
l see a lot of posts off road stuff here. That is probably the single worst environment for a chain to exist in. Desert moon dust here makes an excellent grindinh compound it has the grit of talcum powder and the abrasiveness pumice.
the problem is what is the best way to mitigate the wear in this nasty environment?
Oil, grease, spary even wax products attract dirt and turn it into grinding paste.
The majority just gets thrown off anyway and makes a bigger mess evertwhere.
Its obvious to me that the grinding powewder sticking to moving parts is causing premarure wear. Switching to dry gonna make it worse? The lack of a more substancal
lube gunna make it worse or mo bedder?
Chain is a wear item, l get that. This chain really takes a beating it should be a #50 chain but that aint happening. Just trying to get a little mo outta dem.
I'm gunna try dry lube. Anyone tried it? Lets hear the good, bad and ugly!

I use it sometimes. I prefer to use regular oil and clean when needed. I just dont feel like the chain is happy with dry lube. I always feel a few links that are jammed up after the dry stuff.

EDIT: Hmmm.. I wonder.. The minibike gets almost exclusively, dry spray. Just yesterday I found a cracked/mostly missing bearing inside the roller. So thats something to consider I guess.

Also, I feel like the dirt and junk that DOES get in there, how well will the dry lube, lube THAT? If its caked in dirt and dust, I think oil would protect the chain a little?
