project ninja margay

So "a rough start" kart is gone I needed to scale down to one kart so now I just have one Margay chassis with the new motor :D it's a 2006 Ninja ex250 twin cam with 3k miles on it! Super clean motor, trying to fit it without modifying the frame, might have to notch one area for the chain but not going to extend it and that junk since it's only a 250cc... but it's a big *** 250cc. Been trying to mock the motor up in place to figure out exacty how I'm gonna make the mount for it.

Some things I am going to do on this kart are
1-push button start
2-going to use the full ninja wiring harness and use the factory RPM gauge and temp sensor etc etc
3- possibly headlights and taillights just because I can

here is how it looked before with the old KT100 on it

the new motor is a little bigger

and my vast collection of gears I now have no use for haha

my kt100 i pulled off

the main things i need to do are asap
A) make motor mount
B) get the rear sprocket I need/chain

then of course I'm gonna have to do a clutch lever and shifter

Sweey project, that engine is a beast, according to the internet it should be making around 45-50hp stock.

Oh man that is going to be so sweet! Nice find on that motor!

Edit: and check out this page of Rick's Kart for ideas how to set up clutch and shifter linkage

ya Rick's shop is about 5 minutes from my house.. I've seen the kart in person :drool5:

ya I'll sell the KT100 I want $500 shipped for it and that's with 100% everything, mount, chains, even the exhaust.

but ya the motor should make good power especially on this haha

Ok here is my update finally made the motor mount, fabbed up the radiator mount, the throttle cable is done. All I have left to do is new sprocket/chain, clutch setup, and put on the wiring harness and ignitor which I ordered and am waiting for. I'm running the full wiring harness with a small battery so I can have my push button start which I am sooo looking forward to haha. My motor mount I went a little excessive and made it so it could withstand a monster truck driving over it probably haha but just it had awkward mounting locations due to coming off a street bike. Anyways enough of my rambling.. some pictures (I know kart looks really beat up but as soon as everything is finish it's getting stripped down and redone like I did my old kart)

Nope mount doesn't slide, I worked and worked to try and figure out a way to make it slide but due to the size and weight of the motor it just wasn't really a feasible task, I mean the motor mount is literally probably 3 times the size of the kt100 mount and the space to put the mount was just so small compared to the size of the mount, so I am going to make some sort of a tensioner to adjust the chain.

Well making a shifter should be relatively easy and then all i need is a clutch lever but I might have found a premade one for sale locally so we shall see. The brakes and throttle have all been hooked up already

LOL, this thing is going to be so quick. Are you able to see over the engine when sitting down? I probably would have mounted it a bit lower, but I suppose that would involve chopping the frame a bit.
