hi new here! and I'm now pissed. i just took 30 min to make this thread and my IE CLOSED. now i need to do it again LOL

OK so sorry for the crappyness of the thread i just want to get it done now.

i basically want to make a STRONG diesel go kart that will last me a long time.

I'm going to be riding it on uneven dirt roads and paved asphalt ones.

I'm on a budget (no set limit just need to spend as little money as possible)

engine:

either this diesel ( http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_405826_405826 ) for the 26 hp and the alternator to run lights and turn signals and gages (money permitting)

or

this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-10HP-DIESEL...ryZ79670QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
i will most likely use this one unless i find a good deal for the top one. but if this has no alternator then I'm going to get the top one

tranny:
i want some sort of transmission on it. dont know anything about this. i dont care if its manual or auto. can someone help me out on this?

frame:

since i prolly dont want to pay a machine shop to weld me a frame i would buy one. if i buy one it would be this one:
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/...omer driven-_-Recently Viewed-_-Category Page
is that good for someone on a budget?

BUT if i do build my own frame would one like this be good for me?
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/...omer driven-_-Recently Viewed-_-Category Page

suspension:
OK so since I'm going to be riding on uneven dirt roads i wanted some sort of shocks on it. is it hard to do? any ideas?

other stuff: all the other stuff i need is pretty straight forward. but is there anything you guys could suggest for someone on a budget?

again THANKS for all your help and i cant wait to get this finished!

.........................................................................................................

i have a question about performance mods for gasoline engines (cam lifts and stuff of that nature) should i post that here or in another thread?

ummm... You must have a really big budget if you can by the first engine. If you do buy the 26 hp engine no way in hell can you use one of those frames. You'll have to make your own (check out ryfs kart, something of that sort) I suggest buying a welder instead of getting that 26hp itd b wayy cheaper. Weld your own frame and get either the 10hp or a gasoline engine.

yea go with gas more powerfull for the size and if it breaks you can fix it unlike a disel withh hav injectors etc or get a second hand bike engin you will have geers and it shud be cheap

I suggest making your own frame, i'm don't think a ten horese power will fit in those frames. those things were built for like 5hp 6hp engines. And for that kind of budget you might as well go all the way and make a complete off road full suspension go kart.

if you use a diesel engine you'll need a good tranny, cause deisel engines don't accel good, and can't do high rpms.

I seriously recomend getting a motorcycle engine, and making your own frame. or buy prebuilt

if you are willing to spend that much money i would buy plans for a sidewinder or something like that and get like a 18 or 20hp engine it would be cheaper and probably with a torque converter get at least 60mph maybe even like 75

my goal if i dont go diesel is to get the top speed to 70+

if i go diesel it would be more of a offroad one gasoline will be a racer.

i just need to know what engine would have the most upgradibility, like cam heads valves etc. max horsepower ftw.

i wanted a vtwin so i can get it to sound something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxUsofBzd3k

but preform like this :D

That performance you speak of is a 2-stroke motor. The sound is the pipes. I would recomend getting a 8 or 10 HP 4-stroke briggs or techumsa. Get a cam and bore. Or get a raptor motor. They are 5HP briggs blocks that put out 13-15 HP.

Dude, hes talking about the go kart on the highway. Thats a 2 stroke engine. they kinda suck cause u have to rebuild them alot if its a performance 2 stroke.
