So im 16 years old. I work on honda's as a hobby, and hope to become a electronics engineer after university. Since i have to focus on school once summer is done, i decided to pick up a go kart to work on during the summer - now. So i looked into karts, and i didnt really like the buggy/off road type kart since im in a urban area, and its mostly pavement here. And since i like shifter kart designs, i picked up a local tony kart for 75 bucks. Got it 2 days ago, and here it is now.

How it looked like today

C&C welcome!

Thanks! Well the gas tank was broken so i could fill it with gas lol. Guess ill find out once i get a new tank. And anyways im most likely going to sell the engine it came with to get a CB engine or a dirtbike engine of somesort. I like having gears, lol. The engine it came with was a Honda GX200 6.5hp engine. Gonna sell it for 250 and go pick up another engine. Guy said it works last time he fired it up. And for plans - its getting sandblasted and powder coated by a friend, new engine and clutch setup, new seat (old one wasnt the right size and broke), new bumpers (15 bucks on 7th gear!), and drive it around this summer and hopefully take it to the track a few times for fun!

a 2stroke 85 or 125 dirtbike engine would be loads of fun in there

yeah. I should be able to get a 125 for 200 bucks right?

Your looking at a little more than $200 for a running complete 125 or any decent engine id go with a two-stroke because they're awesome! But dropping an engine like that in takes a bit of work

EDIT:: If you do look for two strokes id stay away from most Kawasaki engines because the exhaust runs around the left side of the engine and the expansion chamber would get in the way

I've never personally liked their bikes it seems like Yamaha and KTM are the bikes to go with now as far as racing, i must say i like the kx250f bikes even though they're four strokes haha they've got dual injectors and a launch mode but still the new hondas have air forks that's cool!

Cool, Birel karts are awsome

Here's a link to the Birel kart forum: http://www.mrpmotorsport.com/community/index.php

If you posted a thread with your bare frame pic and the model #'s stamped in your frame, they could probably help you Identify what year/model it is.

thanks i will. and for the exhaust thing, ill keep that in mind. im not sure what they have there. its a salvage place for motorcycles/atv's/choppers/dirbikes. so i should get a engine there.

im not worried about making the engine work on the kart, its more about how much i get the engine for. My dads a engineer so any tech stuff is easy to do. I can fabricate any parts i need for this, either myself, or at my friends shop.

Also, anyone know where toget a good seat? the lower the cost the better. one of those bucket seats. doesnt matter where its from as long as i can ship it.
