I have a 16 HP vangard twin engine and i am wondering what the correct conversion method is for converting HP to CC's. Also, I am trying to decide which set up would be better for good take off power and a reasonable amount of top end speed. I have looked at the centrifugal clutches and the torque converter setups both. Any advice will be appreciated.

Torque converter will be a million times better, but it will also be much more expensive.

You can not convert CC to HP or HP to CC, they are hardly related. If you get me the model, type, and code numbers off the engine shroud i can tell you everything you need to know about the engine.

The 16hp will be a 30 cubic inch. Like he said there is no conversion method. You could put a big carb and cam on a 30ci and get 50hp out of it. Still 30ci... you can also put a small carb and ports on the same motor and make 14hp.. still 30ci.

Nope, the guys are right. No conversion. Why? Because one does not equal the other. There are so many factors involved in how many BHP an angine develops, and displacement is only one factor. Now, If you look at one particular breed of engine, pick one, we already know how many cc's a certain hp engine is. The GX390=13hp. The GX340=11hp. The GX270=9hp. etc. But switch engine types/manufacturers, the rules change. Here's a good eexample. My GX340 is rated at 11hp, we already covered that. The XV250 I'm putting in my next kart is rated at 22hp. That's right, twice the horsepower, at 3/4 of the displacement...

Thanks for the tips guys.. I did not really need to know the CC's of the engine, it was more for curiosity then anything. I'll post some pictures of my build here in the next few days so you can get any idea of what i am doing.

Here is a couple of pictures of the project. They are not that clear but, you can still get an idea of what we are shooting for.
