It is pretty easy. I'll assume you have the same as most for a throttle cable; a bicycle brake cable or similar.

First, loosen the nut marked with the red arrow in the pic until the lever moves freely.

Feed the cable under the bracket marked with the yellow arrow & attach the end to the hole marked with the green arrow (there is a hole there, this guy has used it to mount a return spring). You can use a bicycle brake cable retainer for this.

Now use the bracket to anchor the cable sheath/liner. The return spring (in the green circle) is not very strong so you may need to find a stronger one & a place to mount it

I used a 1/4"-20 bolt with a hole drilled through it. The nut on top is a jam nut.

Not very glamorous or high tech, but it works.

I have an auxiliary return spring on the throttle rod, so I'm not able to say with 100% certainty that the return spring on the carb/governor is adequate on it's own.

I've been meaning to add an additional return spring on the carb just to be on the safe side.

I added a return spring. The Predator has the cable connection all ready for you!

So this is what it looks like right now, so all i have to do is attach the cable to the throttle lever somehow and have a return spring which i think i already have... :wai:

so now that the throttles all good, i just put the old torque converter on the predator, and hit another possible problem... :ack2:

Isn't the belt supposed to sit on that knobby thing with teeth???? mine when i bolt it all the way on goes inside the outer black part leaving the belt with just a smooth surface and nothing to grab on... help?

The belt is suppose to look like picture 2 and you are suppose to have a bronze bushing underneath that which is spins freely on.

Yup, you'll want the bronze bushing. If it ran off and hid, they're readily available online, or I'd think a *good* hardware store would carry one - I don't think they're an oddball size...

Have you gotten the driver and driven pulleys lined up and spaced properly?

alright so i just wana make sure I'm getting this right. The piece with the "teeth" on it, as shown in #1 ( i think) doesn't even touch the belt? it just sits inside the outer part of the drive? and the brass bushing goes over/around the inner part of the drive (piece on the drive shaft)? Anyone have a pic/exploded view

Yup, the bronze bushing goes over that inner hub, between it and the belt. That "toothed" piece is only for the outer pulley half to slide in/out on.

I'm assuming that's a Comet 30 series...some larger ones don't use the bronze bushing, so you'll want to get a positive id on that CVT. Check out this video or this page for id info.

Take a look at my yerf-dog build thread in my signature, there's a ton of pics on how I set 30-series up. Also, exploded views of Comet CVT's are available at several places online (that also sell parts), like this place http://www.gokartsupply.com/asymapp.htm where I picked up my parts from.

I'd strongly recommend you step back and take some time to read up on how these things operate, what the various parts do, and how to maintain them.

Great video of how to clean one here.

btw, the guy who made those videos (blazkowiez) is a regular poster here.

This is correct. The belt rides on the bushing which spins freely on that pice with the "teeth"

I could give you guys a hug for all the help/advice you've been giving me!!! Finally going to the atv/dirtbike and offroad scrap yard tomorrow! Hopefully going to find a nice sled with a big engine and torque converter for my other build and some misc parts for this and the other. Definitely going to post some pics of that adventure. Thanks again guys!
