My intention was to build an airboat, but I had enough material to make the skis, so I just went with that. I will eventually build a hull. I have had to about 20 mph, didn't want to go any faster. Goes the fastest on glare ice, best ride on ice with about an inch of snow and won't move an inch in deep snow. Steering takes a little getting used to, kind of like a boat, a lot of back and forth on the rudders to counteract prop torque. I do not have any picsof just the engine, I will see what I can do.

Unlike a four wheeler, snowmobile, motorcycle or kart on alky? Risk is 90 % operator. My intention for the build was something that would haul myself and my gear a mile out for ice fishing, that would get me there at a respectable speed and be light enough to man handle. I am not racing this thing.

Thanks for the compliment. The ride is dependent on the condition of the ice, can be bumpy at times, but like I posted above, it's for transportation, not joy riding. Turning radius is less than my ford truck

A lot of people (in another forum) said the same thing, but it is actually quite stable. It is 4 feet wide and the framework is very light. Now I would not want to get going sideways and hit a rut, but then again, I don't want to do that with my snowmobile either.

Having said that, I am going to bring everything down lower when I mount this on a hull. I won't have the brake to clear or worry about my boots hitting drifts or ice chunks.

Y'know- I quite like it. Clearly, it serves it's purpose. It is a creative build, and cleanly executed. Amusingly enough, this would have qualified for the build-off!!!
How did you select an appropriate propeller for this? We all know how to figure out mechanical, rolling gearing... But an air propeller?
At full bore and full load, what sort of RPM are you turning?

I talked with the folks at arrow prop, and based on my engine and design parameters came up with the 36" 3 blade I have on there. The magic number with propellers is tip speed. With 890 feet per second being the fastest you want to spin one, not going to be a problem with a 36" prop, because the maximum design rpm for the prop is 4,000. Larger props require a reduction unit to keep the tip speed below 890, but the engine in the power band. I do not know rpm my engine is turning, but a tach is my next purchase. The only modification to the engine is a header so the prop will clear the exhaust.
