I like the gx390 carb, but didn't try the stock one with my modifications. Some claim a bog when whacking throttle WOT from idle, but I seemed to fix it with jetting.

I put it all together at once (making a half dozen changes all at the same time) so I haven't run the stock carb for comparision??

CONNECTING ROD IS THE WEAK LINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I meant to say billet fly wheel and connecting rod. I asked Kentucky Boy which one he used on his Predator as there are 5 different connecting rods for the the predator on ARC's website.

What I was reading during my research is the stock carbs have just two settings, idle and WOT, adding a Mikuni dirt bike carb would give it a wider range of power. Is it best to just have idle and WOT for these karts?

No it is not "BEST" to have just the Idle and Main circuits (as these lawnmower carbs have)
BUT usually it is Good Enough. There is also a transition circuit (small holes inside the carb near the butterfly valve in closed position).
I'd like a pumper (that squirts extra fuel when whacking the throttle).
I'd like adjustable air bleeds.

My stock piston on my Hemi (60363) sat 0.024" In the hole with a stock length connecting rod.
BUT I've read this varies greatly from engine to engine and needs to be measured.

The +0.020" Rod I used got my piston to 0.004" in the Hole at TDC.
People recommend 0.025" - 0.030" between the piston and cylinder head so I used a 0.027" MLS head gasket to give 0.031" clearance. Stock gasket is like 0.040 - 0.045".

I also milled the head 0.037" (cheap from Dynocams) and got a Black Mamba Jr Cam from SmallEngineCams.com.

This gives ME more than the minimum 0.05" - 0.06" Piston to Valve Clearance and bumps my compression ratio to above 11 : 1.

Axle Question:
Is the 1" rear axle the most common live axle to find parts for? I have a live axle on my cart currently (3/4), but it's enclosed. I want to have an exposed axle with a full length keyway so I can center the sprocket and add a disk brake. When I look around I mostly see live axle kits for 1" axles.

My current kart was setup with a 3/4th rear axle and 5/8th front spindles. Seems harder to find 5/8 front wheel setups.
My question is if I go 1" rear live axle and 3/4 front spindles wouldn't affect anything but availability of parts right?

Is there a common/standard axle/spindle setup that most people use?

I, for one, just go by what size wheels are available for my given spindle and/or rear axle size. Most fun karts have 5/8" spindles for the front wheels...

But nothing is completely standardized. Go karts are modular and infinitely customizable.

EDIT: maybe you're looking in the wrong places for kart wheels?

I see the Azusa rims, but they come with 3/4th bearings, can I just pop those out and put in 5/8th like I've done with the HF wheels?

If you really want a good handling live axle Fast Kart. Learn how to refab the front end.
With proper Caster Camber and Ackerman Even a live axle will turn on a dime on Asphalt.

Here is a link to an on going Build, It shows where he did the front end set up and where we gave him links to other builds and How tos. Read his and the links to get a good idea on front end geometry.
