Hi Everyone, New here but looking to see if I can get some feedback and opinion. Just bought a new minicup racecar and we run the 420 predator.
We strip off the gas tank and electric key start components.

We set them up to have push start button and ignition toggle switch that are made by longacre.

I have it wired to the diagram on and the motor turns over correctly like it should. My question is the black wire that runs off the coil wire. I have been told it needs to be grounded and not have power running into it. every time I test it I have no power going to the coil therefore giving me no spark. Weather I connect it to the ignition toggle or grounding it to the motor I get nothing for power. The air gap to the flywheel is correct.

I have gone and tried 3 different coils and have the same result. no spark, no power and no starting of the motor.

Any input is appreciated!

If Longacre told you this, my suggestion would be to ask Longacre to please advise.

Longacre's instructions assume you have a regular 12v ignition system, which you don't. You have a magneto. Grounding the mag's black wire is what stops the spark. Run that wire to ground through the toggle so the switch is open circuit when the engine is running.

I would still run it past the vendor if the part is under warranty. If you happen to fry something, you're out of luck unless they don't guarantee electrical parts or if you bought it a while ago or online or it was used to begin with.
