Well as some of you may have already guessed, my engine swap is not working out yet.

I replaced a 420 predator that had a sticky valve and tossed rods for a new one. I remove the governer, and put an arc racing top plate on it (henceforth let it be known that the arc racing top plate does fit the Predator 420).

I may have screwed any number of things up, I do not claim to know much about engines. Well upon bolting everything up and giving it a go, I found the keyed electric start not working. It would just produce a buzzing sound upon turning the key. Then I use the pull start and it starts on the second pull. I have the motor bolted down real good, but it was still bouncing around when on. Like it was misfiring or something? It runs real rough for about 10 minutes then dies, similar to running out of gas. It cannot be pull started again. I call it a day.

Today I get the exact same results as I did before. Any ideas? I put a 6 amp charger to the battery and it says it's charged......:censored:

I do not claim to know much about engines.

Open'er back up. Line up the two dots on the crank and the cam shaft that fell out when you opened it.

Caution: Short rant.
I'm beginning to tire of people pulling a brand new engine out of a box, making a claim to something similar up top, then tearing into the thing like it was a box of cereal with a nifty cool prize in the bottom. Then coming here and wanting people to make wild guesses as to why it won't run.

Did you even start it to see if it ran right before you cracked the case?

If you don't know much about engines, why do you even think the governor needs to be removed?

You've got a 13 hp engine that will move a full grown moose around.
Is there a reason you need it to turn more than 3600 rpm?

With the proper gearing. you can probably get at least 40 mph out of it and climb up the sides of a mountain.

Everything was lined up when I sealed it up, all 4 dots. Also the reason why this is done before starting it, is so the gaskets are easily removed.

Ight stringer all seems well there, did you mess with the carburetor? In another thread we were just talking about the float bowl vent and that being clogged would do exactly what you're describing! If you did remove the carb at all check it all again for any upside-down gaskets. :D

I'm just going to go on a random guess here and say you probably put a header and an open air filter on it while you had it apart ?

Nope didn't mess with carb. All gaskets are in correct place. In previous thread was the old engine I bought a new carb for.

Nope just a governor removal and top plate installed.

In that case............Open it back up.

1. Either forgot something and it dissenegrated itself.

2. Or the marks are one from perfect.

3. Take spark plug out and post a pic of coloring (easiest)

P.s. open it back up turn engine over til you think they are aligned and post a pic directly from the side and we can tell you if they are right or not.

Or.......... Go get another one and don't touch it !

Well turns out it was the torque converter. It has loosened up some, but before it was sticking and causing the engine to jerk around a bit and run like crap, as well as stall. Its working a little bit better, but I'm afraid I need to investigate what it's going to take to repair/replace it. All I can say is the driver seems to be sticking, and the belt is starting to fray on the sides. I think this was a lawn ornament for some time before I got it.

Engine is working good, starts right up. just a lot of squaking/chattering from torque converter. And the key start on vehicle (not motor) stopped working. So I didn't mess anything up on the engine after all :wai: :2guns:

I had a severe jerking issue with my kart. I had a new driven so that wasn't the issue. I did a quick clean of the driver but it didn't help. After a GOOD cleaning, all worked fine. I found the jerking to be caused by the weight inside the driver. Clean that VERY good and also the inside of the "clamshell" and the shaft the weight rides on.
