I plan on buying a predator 212 for my 1 seater go kart, I hear you can make these go 45-50 with out putting too much money into it? I mostly do street riding; around the neighborhood; but ocasionally go to a few trails and would like to have some speed (on the road). Once I buy it (I plan on trying to buy a hemi) I will put the stage one mods on it, remove govenor and oil sensor. Oh and I weigh 120 lbs and the cart is 30 maybe 40 lbs. What could my mph be?:auto:

Check out the speed calculator on diygokarts, you first need:

1) tire size
2) number of teeth on clutch
3) number of teeth on axle sprocket
4) feasible rpm max

Just because you can calculate something with max speed, doesn't mean you can achieve that speed as there are other factors that prevent it from happening like rider weight, kart weight, hills, and if you want to go that fast on a kart, you better make sure it is SAFE.

If I were you, I would do the following:
Make sure you get a torque converter, gear the kart to go at a governed speed of anywhere from 26-35 mph.

After removing the governor and all necessary upgrades, you will theoretically be able to have a max speed 50% higher than it was before.

I can tell you my barstool with a modded 212, shifter kart tires, clone tav2 torque converter, #35 chain, 60 tooth rear axle sprocket equals 48mph @5000 rpm. And it has plenty of raw power down low. It wheelies on command from a stop or a roll.

I agree if you have room do the torque converter. With a stock engine you might get your projected mph already with correct gearing !

If you need more info its the okie barstool racer thread from last years buildoff.

when modding these engines, bypassing the gov they are known for blowing the plastic fan and cheap fly wheel apart, be careful on your quest for speed.

Actually, no they're not, the conrod will let go long before the flywheel does; we've heard from lots of members (past & present) about conrods breaking but, never heard about a flywheel exploding...

Also, we don't simply bypass the governor, that will cause damage; if the governor will not be used, total removal is always suggested...

It may help all concerned to have a read of this post

Good Read!! I was one of those that thought the governor was a rev limiter. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply's. I plan on completely taking the governor off, and what is the full throttle mod? I hear you have to play with the accelerator spring on the top of the engine.

Out of the box, the throttle position is controlled by the governor; once you remove the governor, you will need to create a link between the throttle control plate & the throttle butterfly on the carb. This post should give you an idea of what's needed...
