Predator 212 won't start

I bought a County Line log splitter from Tractor Supply that had been returned because the engine was seized. I replaced it with a Harbor Freight Predator 212cc 6.5 hp that bolted on perfectly. The engine and splitter have been working great until recently. I was splitting and the engine began to sound like it was about to run out of gas again so I stopped it and topped it off and it has refused to start ever since. Checked for spark-fine. I was using it next door at my neighbors house so I dragged it back home by hand so I had to tip it way back to make it easier to roll. When I got it home I decided to give it a crank and the thing started but wouldn't continue running. Pulled the carb and cleaned it , no help. I tilted it up again and it started again but wouldn't keep running. Disconnected the oil sensor but no difference. Anyone have any suggestions?

Disconnect the fuel tank, empty and check/clean the filter in the bottom of the tank.
Sometimes it slows the rate of fuel it requires, as it gets dirty from gunk in the tank.

Thanks for the input mckutzy. I'll give that a shot. I always keep Stabil in the fuel since I don't use it on a regular basis and run the carb empty after each use. Checked the valve lash and it's in spec at .004 (it's the hemi version). I'll let you know what happens.

have you tried cleaning the idle jet? also make sure that fuel can easily flow into the bowl from the tank through the lines into the petcock and into the carb bowl
