Recently bought a 6.5 predator 212 new from harbor freight. In order to race my local track the motor has to be left alone (no cams, exhaust, carb mods) besides removing the govener and unplugging the low oil sensor any ideas on how to gain the extra edge to go faster? Plugs etc... any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. also the local track is a .10 mile clay oval

bigger tires, less teeth on the drive sprocket? Sorry cant help you there. You should ask other racers and see what they have done. If they are nice enough they would probably fill you in on their magical secrets.

If you remove the gov. then you will need stronger springs or you risk swallowing a valve. Also there is a load of WARNINGS about running the stock flywheel with the gov. removed, they have a nasty tendancy to come apart! These are all mods to the engine. I would leave the engine alone and work on gearing. Even stock that 212 is a great powerhouse! Torque Convertor I think would give ou the best results.

Not necessarily. The valves will start to flutter because of the weaker springs in the engine before they ever cause a problem. As for the flywheel, read THIS

Have you actually ever seen either of those happen? As landuse pointed out, the valves will flutter with stock springs. I've heard lots of people say "your flywheel will explode" but, I've heard just as many say "no it won't" & I've heard of no one saying "I've seen it happen".

The simple fact is, the conrod will let go long before the flywheel will & the soft springs will act as a governor to prevent both...

I'll let you know when my ungoverned, mildly worked engine shatters the flywheel or "swallows" a valve but, don't hold your breath...

Ok then, my previous post was what I had gathered from reading posts and looking for performance parts. I myself have never seen it happen either, but figured the warnings were there for a reason, besides a nice billet flywheel is still relatively cheap. And with the kids riding it, I would error to the side of caution.
