Predator 212 idle/throttle issues.

I just recently installed a vm22 style carb on my predator 212. It seems to be idling way too high. When I hit the throttle, it revs up just fine, but seems to lag and stay at high rpm’s after I let off of the throttle. The idle adjustment screws seem to make little to no difference when adjusted. I am new to these types of things so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You need to get the carb centered ( perfectly ) on the manifold while it's off the engine. Then bolt the manifold ( with carb attached ) to the engine. As mentioned by Denny, you probably have an air leak. Very common problem when installing this style carb, and high idle speed is caused by the leak. Especially telling when an adjustment of the idle makes no difference.

I just tried re centering it, but it didn’t seem to make a difference. The only time it runs fine is when the choke is about half open. Any less than that it dies, but any more, it is idling way too high.

I will also add that when I first start it, the rpms seem fine, but after about 5 seconds they start to speed up very quickly.

If it runs better when limiting the amount of air, then it is not getting enough fuel.

Do these carbs have a choke (limits air) or enrichment (adds fuel).

If it is a true choke that limits air… perhaps a larger pilot jet?

Is this an Amazon or eBay buy? I had same issue with a knockoff mikuni and the jet size was to small and would not run good whatsoever, bob58o may possibly be heading in the right direction with pilot jet size. If it’s to small you can drill it out to size.
