I just got a predator 212 and was wanting to remove the governor. I was wondering if it would be possible to keep my same throttle set up with the governor removed.

http://www.affordablegokarts.com/throttle-linkage.php

i found this site and was hoping i wouldn't have to set it up like this.

i never thought that way of hooking up the throttle was safe. so i was telling you inbetween the muffler and aif filter is a buit in throttle setup.

isn't it the same? they are both hooked up to the throttle arm.

so with this method i would have to replace the spring with a wire? i don't think i would be able to pull it off. do you have any pics of the string method? how many rpms would i get with the string method?

Jesus are they for real there? Deleting threads and banning all talk of removing governors because some people are dumb rather than promote education and safety that would benefit everyone. That is some serious 1984-esque craziness.

Wow....They seem like real jerks over there. They should be warning people of the risk and everything. But even stock parts should be fine to 5000 or something like that? Maybe they got blamed for someone copping a flywheel to the face or something hahahaha

That site may be run by a set group of individuals
So they are easy to track and find for a law suit
Better be safe than sorry

The sad thing is dumb people can sue over the stupidest things

Like recently a man sued his neibour for running over his fingers while he was stealing his hub caps
And he won

This site seems to be run by a few people spread across a few country's

If I was to inform someone in the US that this is a safe idea and it failed it would be nere impossible to find and sue me

I'm sure members over there still do it but keep under cover

Unreal. My unofficial, non-mod, regular-joe user opinion is this:

The moment you touch a tool to anything, you are assuming the risks. This extends beyond governors, and even go karts (or minibikes). As far as I am concerned, there's a lot to be said for taking responsibility for your own actions. Where is that these days?

So what's next? Somebody skins their knee riding a minibike, and because there's a forum telling them to ride, now the forum is liable for them skinning their knee? Is this what this is?

If I tell you to jump off a bridge, is what's left of you going to sue me for telling you to do it? Who am I? I'm just a voice in Cyberspace. It is up to YOU to decide what to do with the information I provide! Seriously, people! Get a grip!

OMB are full of good people, there is just that one 'governor' issue. The banning threat is just a threat. Quite a few people ask questions about governor removal and tell them their setup, not including billet parts. Only the jerks or over safety concious point it out.
My opinion- Upgrade valve springs, then upgrade to billet parts.

Since I own two predators and I have intentions to some day upgrade them to rev out a bit, what does it take? Like nr-racing.com sells the "hop up" kits and the stage 1 plus a billet flywheel is good for 5500 rpms according to them. Since it is upgrade the valve springs I guess that means it could probably rev beyond 5500rpms which would be a problem for the connection rod right?

The way I see it is that the only way to go faster is to get more rpms. I personally wouldn't want high rpm chinese shrapnel in my body so I am holding off on doing anything with that for awhile. I actually still haven't topped them out so top speed means little to me because I don't have the room to hit it, but less reciprocating mass could change that in the event of the flywheel and rod swaps.

I have, yes, but not while I was actively thinking about the subject and how it applies to me. Time to re read!

I guess I have too many thoughts going at once but I have a good idea of what to expect w/r/t governors and their removal as far as catastrophe is concerned. I guess what I wanted to type but didn't was more along the lines of how do you limit RPMs and/or how difficult is swapping connecting rods, valves, and flywheels etc. I would like to do it myself but I would also like to have a working engine as well.

Is there a way to install a rev limiter to limit rpms? I saw mention of the Briggs World Formula rev limiter (which is 21 bucks buy it now on ebay apparently) but I have no idea if or how it would work on a predator.

MY opinion? Upgrade to billet parts, then upgrade valve springs.
But really- this IS about opinion, isn't it. Hence, my previous point.

Sorry what I meant was when you upgrade valve springs, upgrade to billet parts. Billet parts are not neccesary with clone 10.8lb or less valve springs. Sure, billet parts and valve springs should be one upgrade, done at the same time. JMO.

How easy to install parts? With a torque wrench and correct sockets, not too hard.

Best way to limit RPM is with your foot, or a governor. Rev limiting ignition systems are expensive and I am not sure if they are even available for the clone.
You can get a tach from china for $10 on eBay, search 'tachometer hour meter'.
If you limit the rpm with a throttle stop this will not be consistent. Under load the more requires more throttle for the same rpm. That's how a governor is good.
If you wanted to keep below 4500rpm, I would reccomend leaving the governor in and adjusting spring tensions and positions. Use the cheap tach to get an approximate figure.

Floating valve springs are a pretty good limiter too, but the valves and retainers will wear quicker, and you are more likely to drop a valve.

I removed my governor today and went to test out the mini and noticed when i hit high rpm the motor was sort of pulsing . is this normal for clones ?
