I've been thumbing through the threads on this site and have learned a bunch. Lots of knowledge to be had here.

I have purchased a used Yerfdog 3003 with, what the seller claimed, was a new engine. It looks like it has had very little use (like maybe 2 to 3 hours). The seller drove it for me and it ran good so I bought it. The engine is a predator 212.

I get it home and I am unable to get it to idle without choking it slightly. I have disassembled the carb and sprayed every passage with carb cleaner, but still no idle. I plan to check the insulator between the carb and the engine for cracks that could be causing an vacuum leak this weekend.

Finally my question. Under the idle adjustment screw is a black piece of plastic that I did not remove since it appeared to be pressed in and I was worried I would damage it if I took it out. Is this just something for the idle screw to bind up against or is there something in there to be cleaned?

Hello did you try using a small piece of wire to clean out all the jets and passages?

As a matter of fact, yes! That plastic thing is your idle jet! It pops out after you remove the idle speed screw. Haul it out of there and clean it.

Finally got time to get the idle jet out. Sprayed some carb cleaner in the side of the jet, but none came out through the jet. Took a small piece of stranded wire and ran through the hole and then carb cleaner would spray through it. Put it back in and it now idles perfectly.

Thanks for the help.
