I have a new 212 predator non hemi . I've ordered an intake , headers, and rejetting the carb . Ordering new flywheel and rod soon . Should I go ahead and upgrade the cam and piston as well? Is it worth it ? Anything else you guys recommend? Also, with the new power and speed, will my stock sprockets and clutch handle it? Thanks

A cam is always a good upgrade...as well as springs...(provided you have that billet rod installed.) Of course..one of the first mods is completely removing the governor.

A piston is unecessary...and you don't have to have the flywheel until you get into pretty high rpms...but if you've got the money.. go for it.

One thing you SHOULDN'T do is install the billet flywheel with the stock cam. The stock cam is designed for 24° of advanced...the billet will most likely be 32° advanced. So unless you get an offset key and install it backwards....you'll have too much timing for your cam. Look for a cam spec'd out to match the flywheel.

Cam is a good investment, timing key and cam is what I have been running for two years now with no problems (5500 rpms 10 tooth Hillard Clutch and 60 tooth sprocket). Just upgraded to the 3d Motorsport and Engineering Manual Clutch (http://3dmotorsport.net/) and it is a completely a different kart, burn outs, and donuts, and even wheelies. Now building engine up more to see what the manual clutch can do. The guys at 3d Motorsports are good and very helpful.

No clue what it's running right now. I'm fairly new to all of this as well. Currently all that is done and the governor removed . My gearing has me stuck at 18mph... I have a Jackshaft. Currently it's 12-26 then 12-60.... That's a 10:1 ratio. I ordered a 14t to replace the 26t and that should put me at 6:1 ratio. So right now its stock w/o governor and a 10:1 ratio maxing out at 18mph. What it'll do with a 6:1 ratio and a better intake, Exhaust and carb. No idea lol

Also has 10 inch tall junk slicks .. Not sure if I should change size there or not ?

And reason I question clutch is I saw someone post that their motor was running really high rpms and the cheap clutch vibrated so much it cracked the block...

Taller tires will help increase top end as well...but HOW big? We already recommended gearing for 10" tires....but that may not work if you go big on the tires.

Is a TC better than a top of the line cent clutch? Checked out that manual Clutch as well, and that thing looks pretty sweet

Also. I'm hearing a lot of people saying I need a billet flywheel without gov on. And some saying I don't ... So is a 212 predator safe to ride a little bit without gov. With upgraded intake exhaust and carb. WITH STOCK FLYWHEEL AND ROD? Or is that a death wish ?

Also, just a bit of advice that many people gloss over. You cant easily get to high rpms under load (e.g. when driving around) due to the small venturi diameter on the stock carb. It restricts flow pretty bad. You see a lot of these 'race blueprinted' or 'bored' carbs online for pretty cheap, or get a slide style mikuni so you dont have to mess with direct linkage once you remove governor.

Got my new gearing , 6:1. And stage 1 kit minus the new springs and timing key . Right at 35mph... Next is safety upgrades. Then try and get this thing to 50mph! Thanks everyone for the help !

What kind of safety upgrades do you have in mind?
Yes check the wear and tightness of every nut and bolt if you plan on 50MPH!
