How do you think a really healthy 8hp flathead Briggs (stock except for a mikuni 24mm round slide) would do with a 5:1 ratio and 10.5 inch slicks? I know it won't be very fast, but I really just want some cram-you-back-in-the-seat acceleration before I can afford a torque converter. (after I get one, I'm changing the sprocket ratio to 3:1 :) )

Also, how much horsepower will be gained by putting the mikuni on it? I got the thing from my granddad (for free :) because he is getting rid of his stuff.) It is off an old homelite 4000 watt generator that has not been used very much (It's got awesome compression too! woohoo!) Anyways, It's from 1981 (according to the code) and the stock carb is one of the old gravity-feed ones where the tank is on the opposite side of the engine. looks almost exactly like this:

I know you can't see the carb very well but I think you know what I'm talking about

I'd say you'd gain ATLEAST 1-1.5 HP. The mikuni will help oh-so much. I have a lot of experience with Mikuni's, and everything i put them on i notice major gains.

I've got a 100cc yammy 2 stroke, I just don't think I'm up to mounting it. It won't really fit on the kart and it will cost a ton to do it.

Man, theres so many parts for it that I need. To make the whole set up work I'd need like $500-700

Id also have to cut and lengthen the frame to get the engine to fit. Along with new axle, hub, sprocket, brakes, gas tank, fuel pump, shift linkage, kicker, clutch and throttle cables, 3rd pedal for clutch, entire ignition system for the engine, exhaust system (the only way it will fit has the pipe 2 inches from my head!!!), chain, and a better welder

The 8hp B/S I had was awesome- EXCEPT for the funky carb. With a decent carb on it- WOW! It pulled me with just a clutch and a 3>1 ratio with 16" wheels- it'd break the wheel loose at 30mph in the dirt. The clutch died an ugly death though!
