Hi all
i am considering building the arachnid cart by "spider carts" and was wondering if a hond gx620 with comet 40/44 series torque converter would be to powerful or would it be better to use something arount the 15-18 hp mark
thanks in advance

you'd fly...

if you go above a gx620 i would not use an indistrial engine, but a sled engine or motor bike.

That motor will be fun, but with how much that motor is worth, I would sell it for a sled engine. There's no shifting across the swing arm because they use super sized TC's.

You can find Yamaha Enticer engines on ebay for good prices. Theye are 340cc fan cooled engine. About 80 to 92 they made them. Look for one with the carb. They are rated at 35hp. You can find the matching driven clutch for like $20 as well. Primary is like $50 to $100. Some sellers sell them with the clutch still on the motor. Lots of the older sled makers used 240cc 300cc 340cc 440cc. You should find some nice engine searching ebay with the above size engines. (440 sled engine)

If your going to buy a sled engine from ebay let me know. I have some other tips for this enticer engines. Also the 340 enticer was made for like 12 years. Parts are supper easy and cheap to find. If you blow a motor you can replace it anytime for about $300. I like that. If you shop well you can steal them for like $125 to $150. even on ebay.

I have used one of these 340cc engine in a Odyssey I am making.

haha.. austrialia doesnt even get snow do they? imagine sled engines would be hard to find.. haha

i would go with a bike engine in that case..

and if its an ahcrapnid, id try n find a quad rear swing arm n shock n axle/brake assay and use it instead, with the correct sprocket for the engine..

pretty much what i plan to build, only with my 440 sled engine.. lol..

although im gona end up with the secondary kinda beside the seat.. o_O

Well if you buy one on ebay. Ask the seller if he still has the carb and header. Make sure the coil is still bolted the the engine. Then do a package deal to try to save some money. Not getting th whole sled could be a problems living is Aus. You can pick up the yamaha driven clutch on ebay as well. Maybe $30 plus shipping. the driven clutch is splined though. You would have to machine it. Or fab the yamaha clutch chain case drive into your buggy. If you need a pic to see what I am talking about let me know.

If you lucky you can find a seller that has everything you need. And willing to ship it.

Hey mate, I'm an Aussie too.

Forget the sled engine, you wont find them here, in America they're common and cheap, hence the suggestion. Also no one uses craigslist over here, people use gumtree instead.

Get a motorbike engine instead, that Honda you've got is worth a fair bit, getting a clutch for it will be near impossible too. You could probably build the rest of the kart with how much one of those clutches costs here.

A motorbike engine will be way quicker, look for something 250cc or bigger.

Another suggestion, instead of building the Aracnid, have a look at The Edge plans, in particular, the Sidewinder. It's a much better design than the Arachnid, the plans are better set out and you can buy parts for it (if there's anything you can't make). They are Australian too.

Spiderkarts are working on the Arachnid plans though.

Thanks

Hayden

thanks side ways i will have to have another look at the edge buggies the problem is i have already bought the plans for the arachnid. if i can't find a tc for the gx620 i might just buy a 15hp clone. the plans say that you should have a motor 6.5hp up so a 15hp engine is still for than twice that. what do you think?

p.s. good to see another aussie on board:thumbsup:
