is it possible to take the gears from an atv engine, or possibly the entire gearbox itself, and put it on a cheaper predator (cause thats what i got) engine? or is that crazy? and i dont mean in it, i mean bolt it on the side like a torque converter. i wonder because i always prefer a manual option over automatic and actual go kart gear boxes are few and expensive.

has been done already..
more than once even.

it's just never as cheap as one might think, and never as good as one might think..

Only ever twice I've seen that done correctly
(taking the gears and put them in a specifically taylored gearbox for the kart engine at hand)
In both cases it's been a Hirth kart engine
and I think upon request they still make the gearbox if you have deep enough pockets ;)
[ Google "Hirth 6 Gang Getriebe" if you're curious]

All others I remember have been cut away engines to allow the "whatever crankshaft" to attach to the former decent engine's crankshaft to drive it's gears that way.

carefull not to cut into the gearcase part... if you can't keep the oil in , you can't keep it alive for long enough ;)
(I find no example since I don't remember enough about such abomination to google it properly tbh)
