Possibly a stupid bearing question.

I just picked up a homeade kart with a 1" rear axle. The only bearings i can find online are for 5/8" id. My math is rusty but it seems like they wont fit. Am i missing something obvious or am i not searchimg the right place? Any help would greatly appreciated.

Try your local bearing supplier. I have found that for all the work I have spent trying to find bearings online, pay shipping & import charges, it all about evens out. Your LBS will be able to look at what you currently have, and match it exactly.

My local shop is www.gbs.ca, and they have fair prices.

1" pillowblocks are really easy to find too, if thats what you need, and can be had for around $10. Is it possible that i have a metric sized axle? It seems like a portion of the parts are good quality and not home made. Let me try some pictures.

Yep, that's them...... You just need the bearings, not the hangers too.....

Outstanding. Now i just have to build a new chassis and steeringsetup .

The chassis as set up currently has the bearings very close together. Am i correct in my thinking that they shouldbe as close to the wheels as possible? About 2" in from the wheels is my current plan.

Well, it add strength to the whole deal. Your less likely to bend the axle by hitting something if the bearing is close to the wheel. If the kart frame you have is mechanically sound, why not just add fake A-arm suspension to put a bearing closer to the wheel? Post pics of the whole kart, if you don't mind.....

Mechanically sound being the operative words. Its made from aluminum scrap. The welds look to be made by a first grader. My technology is not cooperating but currently workimg on pictures.
