Possible to use bike sprockets for go kart?

HI guys, i have an old bike which i think is pretty darn strong, I've mountain biked with it quite a bit. Would it be possible to use the sprocket from the peddle and the drive sprocket on my kart? I could use washers to reduce the size of the bore and weld it on to my axle? thanks in advance
