That tells me the rod cap is too small. Using it as is may cause crank damage

ive done that before... overtightened a briggs rod once and it was really hard to turn over. probably messed it up.

maybe because the clone and the gx160 just wore differently so they dont fit together?

ill find out tomorrow when i put the gx160 piston/rod in the clone...

my friend couldnt find the rod cap and i looked everywhere

Different casting I would assume.. Just use the 160 rod, and you may as well use the 160 piston, and the rings too if they have no more wear. Saves you taking the wrist pin clips of, and also it is higher quality. Or whilst you are at it, replace it with a flat top (these used to be $10 IIRC, they are now $25 )

Get yourself some plastigauge and a torque wrench if you want to do it right- You want between 2 and 4 thou clearance (according to ARC). I run mine with more clearance but that's cos I am too cheap to buy a new crank!

haha i used plastiguage before, im going to the auto parts store today so ill see if they have any.

i already took apart the gx160 piston/rod to clean it up good. its back together so ill out it in today

plastiguage said .004". it kinda got half stuck on the crank, and half stuck on the rod though.. had to scrape it off gently

i know, still wouldnt weight off the piston throw it off balance

anyways i took it apart again and found out that the 2 pistons were different heights. so i put the shorter one in and it cleared the rod fine.

put it all back together then the engine would lock up like the same thing is happening. took it apart to find out the rod was hitting the camshaft. i put the thinner one in and it clears it now... hopefully that was the gx200 cam and not the 160.... but if it is then hopefully performance doesnt suffer much

and when i was taking it apart the TC was stuck on the crankshaft. had to fight with it and cuss at it and finally got it off with the gear puller. it didnt go on too easy the second time.... somethings been hit and mushroomed

all thats left is to put the exhaust on. i hope it starts.

tried to start it today, it felt like it had either a ignition problem (firing too early) or tons of compression. as soon as i hit the compression stroke it gets really hard to turn over and ripped the cord back in a little

i know haha terrible luck

i rotated the pull start so it was easier to pull, and put my foot over the engine to keep it steady. the compression is so high that when i pulled the cord the engine lifted into the air

then it started! but it would only run on choke. it surged a lot at full throttle.

might have something to do with the gx160 carb, jets too small?

i can put the clone carb on and see if that changes it.

barely have any time to work on it though, between school and work i have about 30 mins of free time before it gets too dark
