So I just turned 15 last month and I started thinking about getting a car for next year after I finish my buggy. Origionally I was thinking about getting a truck, but the more I thought about gas prices, the more I thought about getting a car instead. After doing some research I figured out that a 2000 or older car with a turbo 4 or six has good fuel econimy and power. As I researched more I found that I could get a 96-99 Audi a4 with the 1.8 turbo 4 for $2500. I also found a few 89-93 supras for $2000. Thennnn I came across a few Mitsu 3000GT's/Dodge stealth for $2500. Which one do you guys think would be the best "bang for the buck"? Keep in mind audi gets 32 highway, supra gets 26 highway, and stealth gets 26 highway. Also, do you guys have any other cars that you think I should consider that cost less than $3000?

F150s may be a bit hard on gas, but they last forever.

i would get a truck and put a diesel in it. or just get a diesel ford truck.
i turned 15 last month as well and i plan to get a old non-running ford for dirt cheap and put somehting like a vw diesel in it....... lol.... top speed can be 70-75, im fine with that, but a small motor these days is a must for gas prices especially if i will be driving it to school every day for 2 years. at least i will be in tech school taking automotive then LOL.

Whats with you and diesels? Can you even get engine mounts to put a VW in a Ford? One thing about diesels: They run great for a long time, then parts start to go all at once and it ends up nickel & diming you.

the mitsi GTOs/3000gt are lard arse as. Supra is cool..what engine you looking at tho? theres a few options.
those 1.8t audis/VWs/skodas are pretty slow in standard trim edit: not that the're bad cars i just wouldnt be comparing them to turbo supras etc.

Get a Ford pickup, with either a 300 I6 or 302 V8 and a 5 speed you can pull down some pretty good mileage, as long as you drive sanely.

if u are only 15 get a cheap reliaple peice of **** and save for a better car when u are older

if u want fast and a ute (pickup) u could get a holden ss ute but i dont think they are sold as holdens in the US

Out of that selection the Audi will be the lady killer in that bunch for your age. Though worry about the mileage versus that turbo-ed engine. My only concern would be the insurance rate.
Also, this still won't work. That's like taking the VW and putting a 5hp Briggs in it, and expecting it to still go 75. Just an FYI, but you're not gonna be going 75 for extended periods of time in an older Ford even with a proper 6.9 IDI diesel swap. The rear ends are geared for pulling, and unless you swap in a newer OD trans, the engine is going to be singing by 60mph.
The insurance rates are nearly the same regardless of vehicle age, to an extent. For me, it is less than $50 more to be insured on my dad's 09 Mistu Galant as my primary vehicle than it is to be insured on the bare stock 03 Honda CR-V, which is listed as my primary vehicle. This has to do with technology and other safety precautions. An old car with a turbo may be quite expensive as the safety measures aren't there but a powerful engine is.

Exactly, it's not always the "reckless poor-decision making wild teen drivers", it's the turd on wheels. I know there are an exceptional amount of bad drivers, but I feel that nearly hitting the ejector seat button on my kart while taking bends too fast has helped my learn how to handle a car better. God, that's scary to take a bend at 25 MPH and not have sides to the seat.

Well, the insurance on me is still $90 a month and my truck only has liability, so it would suck if I got in a fender bender and messed up any of the chrome. I cant imagine how much it would be for a sports car that needed collision coverage.
