Plugging a tire

Well the dingo picked up a roofing nail in the rear tire. So I have a couple of questions. The tire deflated enough that it's off the rim. Will it be easier to plug the tire with it full of air and seated on the rim, or does it matter?

I realize that tire plug kits are simple, but having not used one before until now, if there are any tips or tricks, let me know.

Yes it will be easier with air in it use you rasp to clean out the puncture if you have any patch cement put some on the plug it will go in easier. This is not a have to though.

its pretty simple, just ream, push in the plug with that special tool, then the plug stays in and the tool pops out. Let it cure for a little bit and trim down the plug ends.

Also I find riding on the asphalet very useful after plugging... tire and plug heat up, expand, and helps the two become one...

Definitely easier to stuff the plug in an aired up tire than a flat one.

I have a little bottle of vulcanizing rubber cement. A little of that on the plug before you insert. I've never had a problem with a plug. Might help to trim the tail off with a razor blade down to tread level or close to.

Since the tyre is off the rim, I suggest using a patch on the inside of the tyre, rather than a plug...

Notice after the bad guy shoots the right rear tire it goes flat, then when he is leaving its aired up again, then when Chuck comes onto the scene and kicks it, its flat again, Chuck Norris scared the air back out of the tire. That's one bad dude.

I think a patch is better, and using some type of glue on a plug can be helpful if you have some.

A slug maybe.

Just don't use a plug.

The inside of an atv tire dos not have enough inner liner to buff it clean if you buff to the cords it will never hold. use buffing solution on it before adding the patch. The plug will hold fine even in a sidewall. if it still seeps a little add some slime. I don't think your going to be driving 70 mph. Been doing tire repair for 25yrs. that is something I do know about. The side wall patch your talking about is called a patch plug some have a wire that goes through the hole and you pull it through with pliers. You still have to either buff or use buffing solution and cement to make it hold. Never use fix a flat and leave it in the tire it will eventually ruin the tire. Never use slime in a passenger vehicle. Never plug a sidewall in any kind of highway use passenger vehicle.
