Hi there ,
I am building an off-road kart using an old briggs Ic 8 hp engine with a 22mm (7/8")shaft I have a 19mm (3/4") clutch from a lawn mower ,The rear wheels are 13".I dont want to spend fortunes so I was wondering if I could use a belt pulley wheel on the engine shaft to another pulley on a jack shaft and then have the clutch mounted on the jack shaft and chain drive to the rear wheels ? If so what size pulleys do you think I need? the clutch sprocket has 10 teeth, rear sprocket 50 (i think) The Kart is for my 8 year old ( Although I have made it to fit me!!) I would like it to be able to climb up moderate hills, mounds etc ,Top speed would be good around 25 mph .
Does the above seem like the best option? or is there a better way? Many thanks J
