I am no mechanic, I'm just a Mom of two boys who really want their go karts running. So, I've jumped in feet first...now I think I'm lost :) I have a Murray Kilowatt and a Murray Explorer go kart. I purchased 2 HF Predators to replace the original motors with. The Explorer swapped out perfectly. I put the new motor on the Kilowatt today and am now stuck.
Here is the problem when I tighten the bolt on the upper part of the belt assembly, the pull start will not pull. If I loosen it, the motor will start and run, but the belt will not engage. (I know it must be tight, was just troubleshooting). I am certain I put it together the same way as the Explorer....What could be the problem? Please help and Thanks in advance.

Bingo... Get that and that might be the source of your problems.

You MAY even have some luck finding one at a hardware store... Bring the other one with you for a reference.

Also if you want try using the other one from the other go kart just to be sure that is your problem.

Doing a little torque converter maintenance never hurt too.

Just wanted to point out that you are a kick *** mom for doing that for your kids. Swapping out their go kart motors for them? That's awesome. If you need any more help or tips or anything, this is a great place to ask. People here can be very helpful.

Also, one more thing. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but that belt looks pretty tight. You don't want the belt itself to be very tight at all when the engine isn't running. Good luck with your project!
