I have 2 off-road yard karts (one for my son and one for me a 300lb man) they both have 6.5 tec at the moment. I want to upgrade mine first and this is the motor I am looking at buying Both karts are setup with the TAV2 3/4" shaft system and this motor has a 1" shaft, plus its not rated for the HP. Could any of you point me in the right direction for a clutch. It would be sweet if I could leave the same driven unit and just upgrade the drive only, but I'm sure thats not possible is it?

You could try and find a comet 40 series and sell the 30 series if your budget allows. If not you could get a 1" cent. Clutch rated for your hp.
Rob
Edit: you can buy 1" drivers but i dont think the 30 series would be up for it.

I've looked and haven't been able to find a 40 series, I think I read that comet has went out of business? Are they the only people who make this style if clutch?

I know there are plenty of people on here who have put 1" shaft motors on their carts, please explain what you did to make it work.
thanks

I have a Comet 40. Sorry.

Be patient, you're bound to find the parts sooner or later. There are high performance CVT's out there in current production, but hot dang, they're expensive!

Has anyone tried to use the 30 series with 16 hp? I'm assuming it will burn belts fast? I wonder how fast?

Not that engine, but those engines- multiple manufacturers. I believe most stationary engines use a 3/4" shaft up to 8hp, then use 1" on up.

Technically, an 8hp will not be any faster, just a wee bit more powerful. Honestly, there's another option here. Do some performance mods to your 6.5, you can probably make 8hp with it fairly easily and you don't have to hunt down another engine or CVT. Just a thought.

I am definitely looking for more than just a "wee bit", I've kicked around the idea of upgrading these and I have already put on pipes and air filters and opened up the governors, but its still way to much of a dog for us

That would do it. I think they're clones, but you take what you can get, right?

If you're mechanically inclined, you could always shop for a quad or bike bike engine...
