yeah, well its only my second day welding so ill get there! i figured id just tack up the whole frame, and then after thats done ill have to have improved significantly so id just go back and fully weld everything. IDK if any of you saw my thread but im just gonna go with a modified BSR. The engine i have to use a tec h50 and it needs a new carb which is around 60 bux. Also my dad wont let me dump any money into my engines :( so im thinking of getting a motorized bike kit. That brings the engine, clutch, throttle, chain, carb, exhaust, sprocket, tensioner, etc. so all id have to do is make some mounts and i have the whole driveline right there. Also cause i know a chinese dealer that can get me em for around 60 bux a piece ;D. I know that my dad would let me get it cause its new... Wadda you guys think? im thinking cause of the small wheels i should get plent of torque and cause they rev up high ill get some good speed. Theyre also quite which i like.

That makes you look dumb and proves Im right devino. Thanks fowler.

Thank you. Ive never had an accident or sunburn from welding.

Thats from the same people who tell you to use safety glasses with a screw driver. All you said was:

DO NOT USE GOGGLES FOR WELDING

The shade is like sunglasses and you will burn your eyes. Take a welding class of something before you hurt yourself or hurt yourself when your buggy falls apart. Not trying to be a d*ck but it will help alot. And dont weld in shorts and tennis shoes. Jeans, leather boots, cheap weld jacket and welding gloves.
They are not for arc, mig, or tig welding! They are for acetylene torches. Have fun with burn eyes if you continue using them. All how painful it will be and you would have wished youve never picked up a welder.

You make no mention of the lack of facial protection, only that the shade is not dark enough, which it is. Im not saying its not the greatest idea to weld with those, only that they offer sufficient eye protection.

How much time have you actually spent welding? Prolly not that much, and I sorta doubt more than me.

Im 14. I have Mig, Tig, and Arc welded. Almost every project I use a welder so every other about weekend I weld something.

the biggest tip i can give you about welding is to go REALLY slow and make little circles. When you hold an arc in a spot for a while it forms a puddle. The whole point of welding is to drag the puddle not necessarily drag the torch over the spot you want to weld. I am very like you no one in my family has ever welded before and i had to learn myself and when i was tolled this the next day i tried a believe doing what i just said and it made a HUGE difference!!! Good luck too!!

J.C. I do wish you well on your project and I do believe the welding will come. I have also gone the self guided teaching method. Videos (Lincoln welders website, youtube) and even the manual that came with the welder has some great tips.

I am sorry you don't get much support from your family...definitely makes it harder. If I may step in with non-gokart advice and step to a "get-along-with-the-parents" type of advice? I won't be hurt if you ignore the advice of a perfect stranger, though...just my ten cents:

If your parents have a bit of reason in their souls, you may be able to partially convince them that you are learning new skills that can make you more employable. Further, if you take a more uncompromising stance on your personal safety (even if it means your project goes slower), they may see that as responsible. If your parents are halfway decent, mention these things to them in passing and note their (most likely) positive reaction.

Also as mentioned previously, if you are patient, you can find deals and freebies if you look for them...garage sales, etc. Go early to the garage sales...tools seem to go first.

Okay, I'll shut up for now. Good luck on your project, whatever it may be.

Thanks for the welding tips! im going to be sure to try them all out when i get a chance to go out and weld again.

So i checked the poll and as of now Something Else is winning.... WHAT IS SOMETHING ELSE?!?!?!?!!! theres 5 of you that put it down so please tell me what you are referring to.

After something else came the taipan, but im ruling it out because 1 my welding skills are not up to par, and 2 my wallet isnt ready to take on a project of that size...

After that is tied for the BSR and the Reverse Trike... I think its gonna end up being one of those 2... VOTE PEOPLE!

The biggest thing: Do you have the tools, skills, and patience to design, build and troubleshoot the suspension and frame of the kart your thinking of?

Looks pretty fun and simple, Kinda like a go kart version of the mini buggy I'm designing. I say go for it, but make good plans, and do lots of research on steering geometry, suspension, and welding. Also make sure you can afford it before you start dumping money into it.
