They are welding googles.

They are not for arc, mig, or tig welding! They are for acetylene torches. Have fun with burn eyes if you continue using them. All how painful it will be and you would have wished youve never picked up a welder.

around what wire speed should i have? also im at low amps. is that good? right now i have the speed at like 4.5

something that helped me alot learning to weld at the boat yard. was an old timer told me to go buy some bacon throw it in a hot frying pan, close my eyes and listen. your welder no mater what make or model should always make the same nosie. it make no differance what your welding.
also the absolute most important thing about welding is cleanliness. you can not weld rust. clean shinny metal is the only metal you can weld.

best of luck and have fun.:cheers2:

unless im somehow illiterate now these clearly say WELDING goggles. http://www.harborfreight.com/garage-shop/eye-protection/2-piece-welding-goggles-set-35711.html

As for the project, i think im going to just get better suited at welding over the weekend and im just gonna buld the bar stool racer. im gonna build it low and kinda atv styled, like what go kart14 did except alot ghettoer, scrap built, and no plans :D

DO NOT USE GOGGLES FOR WELDING

The shade is like sunglasses and you will burn your eyes. Take a welding class of something before you hurt yourself or hurt yourself when your buggy falls apart. Not trying to be a d*ck but it will help alot. And dont weld in shorts and tennis shoes. Jeans, leather boots, cheap weld jacket and welding gloves.

Whatta tight @ss. Sure, if your welding for 8 hours straight, then thats the gear you need, but c'mon. Sorry, IMO, you failed at not being a dick.

also. the price is not much different but get a auto darkening helmet

ive burned my eyes so many times using a fixed shade helmet. and after getting a auto darken helmet ive never done it again.

classes would be a great idea. but if your not looking for a cert and a job as a welder. watching some videos and reading info on welding settings should be plenty to get you started

also before you weld. make sure its shiny metal. all metal if old or fresh from the mill will need cleaning. a grinder or sanding disk can get rid of mill scale or other imperfections.

a flux core welder will get the job done but it will be hard to make pretty welds. if your welder has the option. after you get the hang of welding you can use shielding gas and your welds will become cleaner.

Running gas is just gonna complicate things, and make learning more expensive.

Have you ever even used a pair of those goggles? They're actually pretty dark. Wouldnt be a good idea to use if your arc welding a ship hull, but hes only running like 50amps.

Ok so now that that is said and done should I get the 2 quads and make a frame around them so that I have a suspension kart? And then with the other frame make a killer offroad barstool racer?

Or just make a barstool racer modified like gokart14s

Well huys I got some welding done today and I've improved significantly! Ill take some pics tomorrow. But yeah I can lay down a solid bead now. The thing I was doing wrong was seperating from the puddle behind the actual weld that's why my other welds came out bad. These are solid though! I was going to keep going and start laying out parts for the barstool racer, but then I burned myself on a piece of hot metal. Its a tiny little thing like half the size of my pinky nail but my dad told me I had to stop welding. So that's where I left off.

Quick question, those of you who voted for something else, can you please tell me what your suggesting?

I own a pair. My brother has 2 years in Auburn Career Center for welding, my stepdad went to a trade school for welding, and im in school metal fabrications so I think I got my facts straight. I would not use goggles for welding, I own a pair but I never use them. I have welded quick little things in shorts but I would get the clothing I recommended if he was going to weld together a go kart.

Um ok im just saying hot slag on bare skin hurts, weld jacket is dirt cheap from hf, and if you welded for 8 hours straight you would need a BA welder.

So I guess you think the people at Hobart are idiots.

I weld with jeans a hoodiie a jacket over the hoodie and some boots. I also use work gloves and now I'm using this thing that covers your face, kinda like a heavy duty ski mask and then my goggles over that. I'm going to try and rake some leaves for neighbors and stuff to get some cash and ill buy an actual helmet, jacket, and gloves but for now I think I'm doing allright. Thanks for the concern!

So you guys think I should do the barstool?

Do goggles protect the rest of your face ? If the shade is dark enough its fine for quick welds but thats it.

Your statement was as follows:

They are not for arc, mig, or tig welding! They are for acetylene torches. Have fun with burn eyes if you continue using them. All how painful it will be and you would have wished youve never picked up a welder.

You realized your wrong so your changing your argument.

Shipping Weight: 0.45 lbs.

from the posted link
i wouldnt use them
but they will work
id say they are not polarized so they wont offer the same protection
like welding with 4 pairs of sunnies on
itll be dark enough but will hurt in trhe long run

saying that u dont need leater jackets
as long as u use gloves i dont see u getting seriously hurt

at the welding couse i did i worn a short sleeve shirt and welded at 200amps for 6 hours and only got a tan

Regarding sunburn, I welded for about 1 or 1.5 hours in shorts...flux-core, 140 amp welder on a 2 out of 4 voltage setting with slow wire feed and got a sunburn on my leg. It was evening, so no sunlight directly hitting me.

Sunburn does happen for this white boy with a welder! Guess I should wear sunscreen :)

So what is the proper sunscreen SPF for welding at 100 amps anyway...can't find anything in the welder manual on that :D

Ok well see the difference is that you have cash, you have parents that guuide you on how to weld and buy you propeer welding gear and supposrt you love of karrts but mine don't! So when I tell you that I'm out there all alone trying to learn how to weld from youtube videos and tips from you guys and I can afford all the nice gear, just GIMME A BREAK! Geez my welds are getting better and so I took out the hammer I wass able to break the weld I did the other day but not this one. I'm improving! Also I'm here to ask for advice and get tips, if your just here to criticize me then please find somebody elses thread. I like constructive criticism, a fair warning like hey I wouldn't use those goggles for too long or your eyes may start to hurt, that wouldve been fine because I stated that these were only until I got the money to buy the proper welding gear.

Im using a 70s junk weld helmet that my stepdad lets me use, 7 dollar HF gloves, usually wear a long sleeve flannel. I got a free leather jacket from a senior that left it at the a trade school and my brother took it for me. I never use it tho. I haft to buy my crap. My parents dont really guide my much, School metal shop helps alot. Does your school have it?

No they tookk it away cause 2 kids got into a fight in there. It was gruesome. Both parents sued the school, in turn the class was removed and its now a sewing class
