A week ago I got given a 90cc Zongshen pitbike engine that has seen hardly any use and was apparently a good runner. It came with a battery, CDI unit and coil but no wiring loom. So I thought I might aswell have a go at building a GoKart
I saw a mate that works at the local indoor kart place and he gave me an old frame that needs a bit of love as there have been some repairs on some of the welds that are a bit rough and being an ex hired indoor kart she has had a hard life.
He also gave me a rear axel and sprocket and a couple other little bits to help get me started.
So after looking at all my parts for a few days and getting a general plan on how I am going to put it together I thought the time was right to fire up the engine and see if it actually runs. I have bugger all experience with wiring and no diagram so kinda had no idea where to start, so I went home and pulled the (messy) wiring loom off my 125 pitbike and worked out what did what. Here is a pic of what I had to go off-
I wired it up to my engine and checked for spark and all was good, fired it up and it seems to run pretty nice
Spent Friday after work grinding back the crappy welds/cracked welds on the frame so I can start the welding mission this week. With all these things going well I decided to make up a wiring loom and kinda learn wiring at the same time. Here is the loom I made-
It works too
I still need to suss an electric start button and a few other bits but im stoked!
I still need to gather up lots of parts so progress is dependent on how quickly I can do that. This is a budget build and so far has only cost me time which is fantastic, but I know its not going to be long until I have to actually buy some parts. I will post pics of kart and engine when I take some pics tomorrow.
