Piston wall

I got a 6.5 predator I gotta replace a piston and when I open Everthing up and started to remove the piston I seen it had rust inside the wall. I got the motor free because of bad connecting rod. So my question is how to clean the wall without hurting it

Google cylinder honing and rent a hone. You can't replace a piston without new rings and at least a light hone anyway.

I assume its is a 212cc.. Post a pic of the rusty cylinder wall..

Yes I'm putting in new rings too. I can get a kit for 30 bucks for piston rings rod and all the gaskets. The rust is not real bad it's right at the top of where the piston was resting at. And thanks poboy coundnt think of the name for the life of my lol

Or buy the cylinder hone from Harbor Freight. They have that along with a decent ring compressor...

Watch some honing vids on You tube. It does not take much. and there is a right and wrong way. But it is fast and easy.

How bad is the rust? Photos, close-up photos?

If it is badly pitted, almost no amount of honing will fix it unless you spend a few hours at it--and by then you may have oversized your cylinder.

This is just a worse case scenario.

This is the rust I can't even tell it's there when I rub my finger over it. And the wall looks ok but didn't wanna do all the work on tear down and rebulid just to do it all over again just cause I was to lazy to do it right in the first place. But gonna do it anyhow just could not think of the right now lol and thanks for the help.

tbh, it doesn't look bad at all. i had engines that ware siting in a yard for a few years, picked up a whole lot more rust and went back into service just fine after a light honing.

but like was said before, check the cylinder walls for pitting and scratches, if you can catch your fingernail on it, it's probably too deep and need to be bored to the next ring size
