Greetings All,

The silver piece to the immediate right of and a few inches below the exhaust manifold; what the heck is that? It does have a small hole which opens into the manifold.

Also, there are various threads at different points on the block. I assume these were cast this way for different modifications?

Thanks,

Lyman

It has to do with the emissions control of the motor, Its Cali-stan legal.

As for the various bosses on the block, ya they are for the tins and other items that may go onto the block, they might be used for generators/pumps ect.

Gotcha, many thanks for the information. Can you recommend a good source for a clutch? Prior to ordering to I need to know the final drive ratio at the wheel? Haven't figured that out yet. Also, what size clutch would be used for this Predeator 346cc?

Thanks again!

You need a 1" clutch which will set you back around $100...

We need to know your setup if we are to help you with gearing...

Thanks. I wish I had a setup to show you, still working on that. I really need 25 hour days, lol.

Do you have a good source for this 1" clutch? Is there a specific 1" clutch I should be looking for?

Again, thanks. This forum is really great!

Does that silver thing have a wire or hide running to it

Just trying to work out what the hell it is

Looks like an O2 sensor or an egr valve but it looks completely separate
So maybe a dpf for petrols

If it were me, I would try get a Comet 30 series (I think your engine is 8HP, which is what the comet is rated for). If your engine is more than 8HP, you will have to get a 40 series TC.

If you do decide to get a 1" centrifugal clutch, I would go for a 10T #40 clutch. Seeing as you don't know what your final setup is going to be, this is going to give you more options.

I am not too sure of links, but try MFG supply, gokart galaxy, BMI etc. EBay too

The only way you'll get 10 teeth around a 1" shaft is with one of these.

Think about it, if you can only fit 10 teeth around a 3/4" shaft, there's no way you're gonna get 10 around a 1" shaft...

Excellent! Thank you very much. The engine is 11HP. Greatly appreciate the help and thank you!

Hmmmmm...GoKartGalaxy just informed me that they don't have a clutch for that much HP (11HP). I should hear from the others tomorrow.

What is it about the clutch your URL points to that is different than the others? Thanks for the patience...on a learning curve here...

I've found that go kart galaxy are ok with most of the prices on what they have which, unfortunately, is a bit limited...

Compare that clutch with this one & tell me what you see...

...there's always the JShaft route(which probably will be the 'best' method to get the performance desired from 11hp and a TC... but if your insistent on a cent.clutch, a JShaft can 'also' give room for playing w/ speed to torque ratios...plus you can get a 10T around a 3/4"shaft w/outta stepdown.

"Personally" imo, w/ a 11hp motor the smallest wheel id 'think' of installing would be a 16". 'If' you do go w/ a 16" wheel and a JShaft... Id go 12T clutch->15T in-Jack->10T out-Jack->60T(both chains a #40 and a 3/4" JShaft)... thatll give you a 7.5 ratio. If youre a hill climber... change the 15T to a 20T and your ratio climbs to 10.0 ratio(tow a car 'power'). Speedwise, w/ the 15T youll be flying, w/ a 20T you wont win any races.. but youll be able to beat a tugawar!

Half-Breeder, All,

I received this from MFG Supply:

"we have centrifugal clutches for a 1" shaft but only rated up to a 8hp we have clutches for a 3/4"shaft rated up to 13hp"

This is getting complicated. I have a 11HP engine. If I understood MFG correctly I could go with a 40-Series Torque Converter for about $400.00. Ouch. Right now that is allot of money I am sad to say. I asked for part numbers, etc., but have not heard back yet.

I wonder at this point if, for the sake of simplicity, it would be better to sell this 11HP and go with a 6.5HP Predator which would allow me to not have to use a torque converter.

Having said that and assuming I keep the 11HP, can someone tell me what I would need in terms of hardware? I understand this is difficult to do in that I have yet to even consider wheel size but I am wide open to recommendations!

You're all great here, thank you very much!

Lyman

What's wrong with the two clutches I posted links to?
I was told that they do not have a clutch for a 1" shaft where the horsepower is greater than 8. Apparently I need to buy a torque converter as well if I want to use that engine (8HP, 1" shaft).

What hardware are we talking about?
Thanks. Basically what I need to use a 11HP motor with a 1" clutch. Thus far I've been told that due to that combination of HP and shaft size I need to use a torque converter. So I assume I would need a clutch and a torque converter, but whose? What size? What more do I need to know?

I am almost tempted to move away from the 11HP and go with a 212cc 6.5HP with the 3/4" shaft...
