Sorry for the novel but here goes.
Had an old John Deere 111 mower I was trying to get rid of. Wasn't having any hits on it since it's winter but this kid got ahold of me yesterday wanting to trade for this go kart. It wasn't as described when I got there but I decided to do the trade anyway. I'd rather have another go kart instead of an old lawn mower I don't need.
Determined from the stickers that it's a BKS(bobs kart shop) go-fur. Pretty cool since the old bobs cart shop is just a short drive from my house. Frame is in decent to good shape. Engine and clutches are Pretty much toast IMO.
Has a Briggs and Stratton fun power 5hp on it. Comet 20 series clutch setup. No recoil on the engine and smokes like a freight train. Pretty sure the kid has the clutch bolt threads mucked up as well. I'm junking it and replacing it with the predator engine out of one of my mini monsters. Wanting to convert it back to electric start so this gives me a use for the perfectly good predator I'm taking out of it. That solves the engine problem but now we're down to the clutches.
Has the Comet 20 series torque converter setup.
Driver clutch is missing the proper bolt and washer, missing the brass bushing, and it's overall in pretty nasty shape.
Driven clutch has a broken spring and its overall in pretty bad shape as well. Not sure how it attaches to the jack shaft. It's just a solid shaft with a hole through it near the end?
Has anyone had luck with the Chinese clutch sets off feebay? I'm wanting to stay cheap on this project but I also want it to be trouble free just the same. The comet set will cost me about $220 with a belt and a can of lube. The Chinese set will be $110-115 with a can of comet clutch lube. What should I do?
Also what size belt do I get if I go with the comet setup? It's about 7 3/4" center to center from engine shaft to jackshaft.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
