Anybody have one they like in a mid- price range? (Or hate.)

My head is swimming from shopping, but I have a few I'm considering.

Also, those little wine cooler looking electric temp regulated smokers that use wood chunks.

whatcha need it for? Home Depot has a kinda decent video on why to go with one vs another in terms of wood/pellet, etc, I'd also encourage you to jump on hearth.com as they have some decent statistics on all kinds of stoves by brand and model

Might as well stick it in the oven :roflol:

I think not. BIL has one and brings brisket and turkey to the family get- togethers, and they are pretty close to the really good BBQ joints here in TEXAS!

BTW, Albertsons has turkeys for $.25 a pound right now.

My uncle has a little one from tractor supply or horror freight. Don't remember. I think he said it was $100-150.
Works great.

Not sure what you mean by mid-range but the technology has been out a while and the cheep stuff works just fine.

I'm leaning towards one in the $500 range. Haven't seen anything even close to $100. Entry level is $300.

Traegers start around $700 and go up over $1500.

So, the electric that uses wood chunks is about $170, (not a pellet) and I found a charcoal grill for $100.

So, for under $800, I should have all the grills and smokers I need.

I have really considered the $300 ones, but they tend to be smaller capacity than I think I would like, and I've seen some nightmare reviews. IDK. I think I'd rather spend $500 and be happy, than $300 and disappointed.

I kinda have a way of looking at things like this. First off, if it cooks foolproof, it'll save money in ruined meat, by not flaring up at the worst possible time, like my current off-set barrel smoker does.

Second, this is something I'll use A LOT, and if it lasts 5 years.....that's $100 a year, less than $10 a month, less than $8 a week, soooo, probably $4 everytime I use it.

What?!!? I'd buy a freezer just for that.

Yep...mind blowing, a 10 lb. turkey for $2.50! Now, it is a limit of one, with a $25 purchase. But, I'd still get a few for that deal.

Yeah, It's supposed to rain tonight, and I have a little constuction job outside tomorrow, but afterwards I'm going to get the Pit Boss Classic from Wal-Mart for $424. Folks are giving it better reviews than the Traegar.

The upright wood burner is on clearance from $199 to $169, and they only have one left....soooo, IDK, might go get it, or it might be gone by tomorrow. The grills are disappearing everywhere.

I must have bought the wrong one or they had the wrong one in the place I looked but the digital upright wood burner was only $108.

I'm sure I'll be happy with it, because I believe it was the display I looked at. They did have a nicer one, but it just basically had more cooking area and a glass door. I'll look in the morning, and decide if I want to spend the extra $61 and upgrade.
